Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich Pick – Matchday 28 – May 26

The Bundesliga has been quite the league for us thus far at The Sports Geek. SInce covering the matches from its resumption on May 16th, we are a stellar 9-1 with our bets, and will look to keep the winning ways going for a full slate of mid-week action kicking off on Tuesday.

Up first is undoubtedly the best game in all of German soccer, and right now the world. It’s dubbed as ‘The Classic’ matchup, or as the Germans say, Der Klassiker. It will see the most talented sides in the nation go head-to-head in a game that could very well decide who wins this season’s Bundesliga. Bayern Munich enter four points up on rivals Borussia Dortmund, though Dortmund’s hungry and youthful group feel that is their moment to reverse history. Bayern are winners of seven straight league titles, and it is not hyperbolic to suggest a victory Tuesday could all but make an eighth straight championship,a certainty.

Dortmund have come out of the pause period flying. Though some injuries has tested their depth, this is a deep squad that can score at will. Julian Brandt has been cerebral in the midfield, while new addition Erling Haaland remains a handful for any defense to deal with – Bayern Munich included. This past Saturday they disposed of a tough WOlfsburg squad with ease, and after years of knocking on the door to challenge Bayern, many see this as Dortmund’s best chance to dethrone the long-time kings of German soccer.

For Bayern Munich, they have seen countless challengers come and go over the past years – but one thing has always remained constant, Bayern at the top. The group is in excellent form, and they have been ever since new manager Hansi Flick came into the squad. They play with pace and precision, can score with anyone, and remain solid without the ball. There’s a reason they’re atop the table, and one of the best squads in the world. Still though, this is crucial match for both the present and their future – and Bayern will have its hands full on Tuesday.

Book off what you are doing over the lunch hour this Tuesday afternoon, because at 12:30 PM EST, we’ll see the best sporting event since resumption. Bayern vs. Dortmund will bring the goals, and it will deliver excitement. The talent on the pitch will be astounding, and we’re here to fully cover every angle. Keep reading on beneath the posted odds for a full match breakdown, preview, and betting analysis, as we look to improve upon an excellent 9-1 Bundesliga record. Enjoy Der Klassiker!

Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich Pick:

With the Bundesliga title likely all but decided following the 90 minutes of this match, this mid-day encounter makes for must-see action this coming Tuesday. Both teams play to excite, and can and should generate a ton of chances and quality scoring opportunities at goal.

Although sometimes these big soccer encounters start out cagey, with neither side wanting to make a mistake – don’t expect a similar style in this contest. Borussia Dortmund will likely be going for broke here, recognizing that if they are to have any real chance at winning the Bundesliga, a draw does them no good on Tuesday. Dortmund will be playing to secure the full three points, and as a result – will be playing an offensive and attacking style from the get-go.

Manager Lucien Favre has had some recent fitness issues for the black and yellow over the past couple of matches, and that situation has remained murky. Axel Witsel and Marco Reus will still be out, taking a big chunk out of the quality within their midfield. It’s also believed that Jadon Sancho is not currently at full match fitness – which has to be a boon for Bayern Munich’s chances on Tuesday. Still though, this Dortmund side is littered with depth and talent across all positions. Julian Brandt is in remarkable form at the moment, and Bayern Munich will still need to deal with the unbelievable Erling Haaland up top. Expect his blend of power, speed, and finishing to really give the centre of Bayern’s defense a legitimate test.

On the other side, Bayern aren’t really dealing with any new or pressing injury concerns. They’ve shredded their opposition since the restart of the league – easily disposing of both Frankfurt and Union Berlin. That said, against elite offensive opposition their defense has shown some warts – and Dortmund surely have to see both openings and vulnerabilities with a central pairing of Hernandez and Alaba.

GOALS GALORE
If you like offense, and you like goals – this top-of-the-table clash is for you. Both squads definitely are much stronger in attack than they are at the back, and the flow of the game should necessitate goals. Expect an aggressive Dortmund approach from kick off, but one that ultimately leaves them quite vulnerable to quick counter-attacks going the other way – especially from wing-backs Alphonso Davies and Benjamin Pavard.

While it’d be nice to firmly back a side in this contest, it’s tough to make an accurate prediction on either side without first knowing the full fitness of Borussia Dortmund’s star talents and their starting eleven. Jadon Sancho is already one of the top players in the Bundesliga at just 20 years of age, but his current form remains in question. With that, there seems to be much better value on playing goals here. With all of the attacking talent on display, and the tactics both teams employ – look for chances for all 90 minutes.

Tuesday’s best bet is a play on the over 3.5 goals. It may seem steep for a soccer match, but the style and quality should see this soar over the number. If you’re pressing me for a prediction on the side, I think there is slight value with Bayern Munich, expecting the speed and attacking ability on their flanks to overwhelm Dortmund’s vulnerable defense. Enjoy what should be an instant classic, folks!

My Pick
Over 3.5 Goals
