Borussia Dortmund vs. Fortuna Dusseldorf Pick – Bundesliga June 13

Coming off of yet another Bundesliga winner Friday afternoon, we’re back at it for a loaded Bundesliga slate this coming Saturday.

It is also worth noting that many other top European leagues return this week as well, with things kicking off in both Spain and Italy, though our focus will continue with Germany’s top flight through the weekend.

Mid-week, the English Premier League returns, and of course – we will have all of your betting news taken care of for that season’s restart. For now though, we will continue with the Bundesliga and shift our attention to a big-time mismatch to kick things off on Saturday, as Borussia Dortmund host Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Both sides are at different ends of the table, but still have things to play for. Fortuna Dusseldorf have endured a roller-coaster of a season, and would obviously love to avoid relegation. It won’t be easy with tough fixtures looming. Meanwhile, for Borussia Dortmund – it seems as if they’ll very likely again miss out on a championship to bitter rivals, Bayern Munich. Instead, the black and yellow will be playing for 2nd, and they’ll be keen to lock that down and ensure Champions League qualification for next year.

If Dortmund does slip up, they’ll also hand the title to Bayern Munich with weeks left to play, which is never a good feeling. Expect Dortmund to keep the pressure on in an entertaining affair on Saturday. For more team news, and an official betting prediction for this game, read on beneath the posted odds.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Fortuna Dusseldorf Pick:

With Dusseldorf currently entering this clash sitting just three points of the relegation zone and a hard-charging Werder Bremen, they know points are especially at a premium down the stretch. The unfortunate thing is that they won’t come easy against a talented Dortmund group, also playing for a coveted Champions League position.

Expect Dortmund to return to close to full-strength this week, with Erling Haaland back up top in his familiar striking role. The big Norwegian has been a revelation at Dortmund, as many Bundesliga defenses have struggled to contain his unique blend of speed, power, and finishing ability. With Dusseldorf’s back-line so suspect, expect Haaland to add to his tally on Saturday.

He’ll be supported in a dynamic front three trio playing ahead of Julian Brandt and Jadon Sancho, truly one of the best attacks in all of soccer right now. Brandt has been a set-up machine since the restart, while Jadon Sancho is finally starting to find his game from before the pause in March. Expect that duo to control much of Dortmund’s attack with Brandt’s passing and Sancho’s pace really causing Dusseldorf all kinds of trouble when they don’t have the ball.

The centre of Dortmund’s midfield has also been heavily fortified in recent weeks, with both Emre Can and Axel Witsel returning to form. That veteran duo provides a tireless work rate and ball-winning ability, and will do well to control possession for the black and yellow. It’s highly unlikely Dusseldorf will have anybody within their eleven that can nullify this.

This is a big-time mismatch, and following a bit of a lackluster showing from Lucien Favre’s Dortmund side last Saturday, there has been talk all week in camp about ‘bouncing back’. Dusseldorf will be missing their club captain Adam Bodzek for this clash, and will also be without first-choice keeper Zack Steffen. That certainly isn’t good news when prepping for this Dortmund onslaught.

Look for Dortmund to control this match from the outset, and do well to generate chances and find the back of the net with some regularity. They’ll be loaded with speed and trickery on the flanks this weekend, and that should cause Dusseldorf fits when defending. We saw two weeks ago how much this team enjoys offensive football and scoring, and they have no aversions to ‘running up the score’ and further padding their already impressive stats on the campaign. Look for Dortmund to keep pace with the leaders with a convincing Saturday victory.

Prediction: 3-0 Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund -1.5
