Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Bayern Munich Pick – Bundesliga January 8, 2021

There is not much elite European football to note on Friday, but the Bundesliga in Germany has a match and La Liga in Spain has a game as well. Celta Vigo and Villarreal should get into a good one at Estadio de Balaidos in Vigo. Most football fans are going to be interested in Bayern Munich, though.

Bayern Munich has a sizable following across the world and is going to be the team to watch on Friday. They are on the road for a decent test against Borussia Monchengladbach. Bayern Munich can’t go to Monchengladbach with a lazy attitude.

Borussia just got by to the Round of 16 in the Champions League after going 2-2-2 and 8 points to edge out Shakhtar Donetsk. They both finished with 8 points, but the tiebreaker went to Borussia. Good luck with getting past the Round of 16; however, it’s already a win for Borussia to get to that stage.

Their opponent on Friday easily won Group A over Atletico Madrid. Bayern Munich finished with a record of 5-1-0 to miss out on just two points during the first-round. Atletico Madrid is a very capable club in La Liga, though they were no match for Bayern Munich. In any case, Atletico Madrid will be going to the next round regardless for finishing second in Group A.

The top of the table looks as you would expect in Germany. Bayern Munich is atop with a record of 10-3-1 and 33 points. The defending Champions League champs hold a two-point advantage on Red Bull Leipzig in the table. Leverkusen with a record of 8-4-2 and 28 points completes the top-3 in the Bundesliga.

Borussia would not be going back to the Champions League if the season was called today. They welcome Bayren to Monchengladbach with a record of 5-6-3 and 21 points. Borussia haven’t been losers in many matches, but have to find a way to get over the hump and pick up three points instead of one. They’re coming off a clean road win by a score of 1-0 against Arminia on the road in Bielefeld. Head below for our free Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Bayern Munich pick on January 8, 2021.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Bayern Munich Prediction:

If Borussia catches Bayern napping on Friday, then they can likely get a draw out of this matchup. A win will require an A+ effort from Borussia along with sloppy form for Bayern. That’s not such a simple ask on Friday. Borussia has just one Bundesliga win in their previous five outings.

At least they were able to pick up six points from that stretch with three draws, a loss, and win. Should we be impressed by their win over Arminia, though? Not quite. Arminia are up for relegation at the moment with a putrid record of 3-1-10 and 10 points through 14 matches. A loss for Borussia there and that would have been some upset supporters in Monchengladbach.

Borussia has netted an average of 1.79 goals and 1.57 goals conceded per game in the 2020-21 campaign. At home in Monchengladbach, they’ve scored 1.43 goals and 1 goal conceded per match. Their last match against Bayern didn’t go particularly well, but it was a solid try to hang in there for a 2-1 loss on June 13. They were outshot with 2 shots on target as opposed to 5 for Bayern.

Bayern are in great form with three straight wins. They most recently defeated Mainz with ease at home, 5-2, following a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg and 2-1 over Leverkusen. The Champions League champs have netted 3.14 goals and conceded 1.5 goals per match this season. They by far have the most prolific offense in the German Bundesliga. Bayern will be without the services of Tanguy Nianzou and Joshua Zirkzee, but are otherwise healthy. If they are motivated on this road trip, Bayern Munich should reign supreme in Monchengladbach.
