Chelsea vs. West Ham Pick – English Premier League December 21, 2020

There are two Premier League matches on the Monday slate, as Burnley and Wolves square off, and Chelsea and West Ham clash in the evening hours for the second match. Sorry to Burnley and Wolves, but I am not interested in that contest. From a betting perspective, and just from an entertainment standpoint, I am not too interested.

Burnley are going to be concerned with getting relegated near the end of this campaign. Wolves on the other hand, are a mediocre outfit that likely will remain in the middle of the EPL table. That’s not to say it is going to be a terrible season for them. They just aren’t ready to compete with the class of the Premier League. Liverpool are clear at the top of the table with a record of 9-4-1 and 31 points.

They hold a four-point advantage over Leicester City for top honors in the Premier League. A repeat title wouldn’t be surprising at all for Liverpool. Adding a Champions League title to their mantle would certainly cap off an incredible run for Liverpool as well. They have two legs ahead of them against Red Bull Leipzig in February in the Round of 16.

Chelsea finished atop Group E with a record of 4-2-0 and 14 points. They edged out Sevilla by a point for the top spot. Chelsea advances to the knockout stage with a meeting against Atletico Madrid. That’s going to be a competitive couple of legs.

I would not be surprised if it goes to a penalty shootout. Chelsea sits eighth in the table with a record of 6-4-3 and 22 points. They’ve been meh, and are in the midst of a two match losing skid. Head below for our free Chelsea vs. West Ham pick for December 21, 2020.

Chelsea vs. West Ham Prediction:

Chelsea needs a little more effort on Monday or they are going to be staring at three straight Premier League matches. That’s nine potential points out the window for Chelsea. They were 1-0 losers against Everton, and then a 2-1 loss against Wolves most recently on December 15.

Chelsea has the talent to beat both of those clubs, so that was a missed opportunity. Everton has been playing some fantastic football recently, though. Let’s give credit where credit is due. West Ham presents a more winnable opportunity on Monday evening at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham finished the 2019-20 campaign with a record of 10-9-19 and 39 points for 16th in the EPL standings. They avoided relegation by five points, with Bournemouth finishing at 9-7-22 and 34 points. West Ham have shown signs of improvement this season and appear in the clear to avoid relegation.

They go into Monday with a mark of 6-3-4 and 21 points. West Ham is coming off a 1-1 draw versus Crystal Palace at home. They were mightily impressive in a 2-1 win over Leeds prior to that match on December 11. That was a nice response after dropping a 3-1 decision against Manchester United.

The Chelsea offence has been in good form at home in the 2020-21 campaign. They’ve netted 2.33 goals per match, while conceding 1.17 goals per match. In their last Premier League match at home, they rolled over Leeds for a 3-1 win. Then on the road, Chelsea ran into losses against Everton and Wolverhampton. Chelsea has lost just one match in 14 outings against West Ham at home. Back at Stamford Bridge, expect a response by Chelsea to get back on track.
