Eibar vs. Real Madrid Pick – La Liga December 20, 2020

There is plenty of elite football across Europe on Sunday. The EPL has four matches, La Liga the same, while Serie A has a full day with six matches on the schedule. The Bundesliga in Germany has a couple of matches as well if you are looking for even more European football. Real Madrid is the biggest club in action in Spain on Sunday.

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad have Sunday and Monday off before hitting the pitch on Tuesday. Villarreal isn’t playing on Sunday either, as they prepare for a Tuesday matchup as well. There are going to be several good matches in a day across Spain.

Real Madrid is the only club in the top-6 of the La Liga table that is playing on Sunday. They have been having a productive 2020-21 campaign, and are staying within reach distance of the top spot in the table. Real Madrid goes into Sunday with a record of 8-2-3 and 26 points. They are in a tie with Real Sociedad for second in Spain going into Sunday.

Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad can’t concern themselves with Real Madrid at the moment. They have to worry about themselves and hope it makes a difference later on this season. However, it doesn’t take away the fact that Real Madrid is hotter than ever right now and are in the best form in Spain.

Real Madrid are on the road in Eibar on Sunday, where they will look to avoid getting upset against a 3-6-4 Eibar squad. Eibar are 13th in the table, and would be good enough to avoid relegation at the moment, but they’re well back of a Europa League or Champions League berth. Spoiler: Eibar will not receive an invite to either. Head below for our free Eibar vs. Real Madrid pick for December 20, 2020.

Eibar vs. Real Madrid Prediction:

Real Madrid has been on a tear recently with three straight wins. They’re in their best form of the season at the moment. Following an upset loss against Alves, 2-1, Real Madrid has been playing terrific football. Across the Champions League and EPL, they’ve won four of their last five matches. In La Liga, Real Madrid were winners over Sevilla, 1-0, Atletico Madrid, 2-0, and Athletic Bilbaio, 3-1.

The win over Sevilla on the road and 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid were awfully impressive performances. Sevilla isn’t the easiest opponent to beat on the road, Real madrid handled them impressively. Karim Benzema, one of the most underrated players in Europe, scored twice in a 3-1 effort for Real Madrid against Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday.

Real Madrid have averaged 1.69 goals while conceding 1 per match on the season. They’ve been fine on the road as well, with 1.57 goals scored and 1.14 goals against. Eibar has had a heck of a time trying to figure Real Madrid out in previous matches. They have just one win, with ten defeats in 11 matches against Real Madrid.

They are losers against Real Madrid in three straight matches. Following a big upset in 2018, Real Madrid have beaten Eibar by final scores of 2-1, 4-0, and 3-1. In their most recent meeting, Real Madrid were 3-1 winners on June 14. Their offence has been non-existent at home, with just 0.14 goals scored per match in the 2020-21 La Liga campaign. Overall, they’ve netted 0.69 goals per match.

They need goals against Real Madrid to spring an upset, and I just don’t see them coming on Sunday. Note that Real are in good shape when it comes to injuries, while Eibar have several notable players injured. Cote, Rober Correa, and Quique Gonzalez will all be absent on Sunday. Four other players for Eibar are also listed as doubtful against Real Madrid. I’m backing a 2-0 win for Real in Eibar on Sunday.
