Below is a betting preview for the Fulham vs Aston Villa Premier League match for August 13th, 2011
Fulham and Aston Villa is a match that will catch a lot of attention. Our friends at Bodog.com have Fulham as the favorite as they sit at +115 on the money line. The underdog, Aston Villa sits at +230 on the money line as does the chances of a draw.
For Aston Villa, goalkeeping is never a question. American born Brad Friedel will start the first match of the season just like he started all 38 Premier League games last season. He is a solid player and a force to be reckoned with in net. But with the departure of midfielder Stewart Downing to Liverpool and striker Ashley Young to Manchester United, Aston Villa will be hard pressed to find a scorer. The midfield will be held down by experienced veteran Nigel Reo-Coker and it is looking like the most threatening attack option is going to be Darren Bent. The defense will be manned by Irish native Richard Dunne. These names are all fine and good, but the problem that Aston Villa is facing is that outside of these names, there are not too many experienced options, especially in attack.
Things are looking more up for Fulham who will have their net tended by Australian vet Mark Schwarzer. Clint Dempsey is Fulham’s most prominent attacker and he works on both creating and being part of the attack through his midfield position. Last season he led the team with 12 goals in 35 matches. Aaron Hughes is going to be the voice of the defense, he started all 38 games last season and even recorded one goal. Bobby Zamora is the biggest threat in the attacking third and after only starting 9 games last year many people will begin to question his health and longevity. In his 9 games he did record 5 goals which is a pretty impressive mark.
Fulham vs Aston Villa Prediction
This match is an interesting one because there is not too much in the way of pure forwards present in the game. Fulham will orchestrate mostly all their attacks through the midfield and it will be interesting to see how Darren Bent will force himself into the game. With two keepers of this caliber it is hard to imagine that many goals will sneak by the American and Australian. My prediction is a 1-1 draw at the full time whistle.
