Real Madrid are getting closer to clinching the La Liga title. While Barcelona has been in better form most recently, they can’t do much about it if Real Madrid keeps winning their matches. Barcelona are coming off a 1-0 win against Valladolid to pull within a point of Real Madrid. They are winners in three straight matches.
A 4-1 win over Villarreal last weekend got Barcelona going in the right direction. This was after a 2-2 draw versus Atletico Madrid on June 30. Atletico Madrid aren’t a bad outfit by any means. In fact, they could be a sleeper in the Champions League. However, it’s two big points that Barcelona missed out on there. A draw against Sevilla doesn’t help their cause either.
Lionel Messi voiced his displeasure with his teammates shortly after a 2-0 win over Leganes. He thought they had to be better, and Messi is certainly on point looking back on it. There were some concerns that Real Madrid was going to get really hot, so passing up on easyish points wasn’t in their best interest. There are only two Matchdays left for Barcelona and they trail Madrid by a point.
Barcelona has winnable matches against Osasuna and Alaves left on their schedule. However, Real Madrid has three games left, so they have an extra point on Barca and an extra match. That doesn’t bode well for Barcelona’s chances. Karim Benzema and his teammates are playing with a ton of confidence and in their best form as well. It’s not impossible for Barcelona, though. We’ve seen far crazier things happen than a 1-point deficit erased at this point in the season.
Some help from Granada would be greatly appreciated by Barcelona. Granada have been in good form, so they have that going for themselves on Monday evening in Spain. They’re coming off a 3-2 win over Real Sociedad to advance to 14-8-13 on the season. That gets them to 50 points and a comfortable spot away from relegation, though too far away from Europa League qualification. There isn’t anything to play for, but an upset over Real Madrid would be a nice win for the resume. Head below for our free Granada vs. Real Madrid pick for July 13, 2020 in La Liga.
Granada vs. Real Madrid La Liga Betting Odds:
Granada vs. Real Madrid Prediction:
Granada employed an attacking offence to get the win over Real Sociedad. Their defence clearly hasn’t had it in them, but offensively they have been taking care of the ball. They scored 2 goals in a 2-2 draw against Valencia on July 4, and then followed up for a 3-2 win. Prior to the draw, Granada had a 2-0 win over Eibar.
The offence has really been clicking for Granada, and Barcelona certainly hopes they keep rolling. In their previous three matches, Granada has scored 7 goals. However, the last time they played a top-5 team, Villarreal held them to no goals in a 1-0 final on June 19.
The Real Madrid defence is going to be an incredibly difficult challenge to overcome. Madrid will be getting a couple of defenders back today as well. Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal are both set to return after suspensions. The only piece missing for Real Madrid on defence is going to be Nacho because of an injury.
There were a lot of questions regarding their defensive core against Alaves with Ramos and Carvajal out, but they handled it well in a 2-0 win. Their closer to full strength against Granada on Monday. Despite the Granada offence in great form recently, it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to penetrate Madrid. The Madrid defence has been a top-flight unit, with just 0.6 goals conceded per match in 2019-20. They haven’t conceded a goal since June 21 against Real Sociedad in a 2-1 win, which was six games ago.
Eden Hazard returned against Alaves and there weren’t any worrying concerns during the match. Hazard is expected to play today against Granada as he fights off some ankle pain. Marcelo is done for the season, but Zidane has enough of his team together to cause plenty of issues for Granada at home. Real Madrid are locked in right now and should continue to thrive. Since returning to play, they’ve conceded just 2 goals in eight matches. I’m on Real Madrid in what I see as a 2-0 or 2-1 final score in Granada on Monday night.
