Isloch Minsk vs. SFC Slutsk Pick – Belarusian Premier League April 5, 2020

The Belarusian Premier League will cap off its third week of Premier League action on Sunday. Cup competition will resume during the week in Belarus before getting back to the Premier League schedule next weekend. Belarus is the epicentre of the sports world right now, as one of the only countries in the world that is still playing and allowing fans to attend games.

I think the only thing that may have ever made Belarus the epicentre of sports is a worldwide pandemic of this magnitude. If you’re wondering if Belarus is ever going to suspend business there, don’t bet on it happening. I think if it’s going to happen, that will require dead bodies in the streets for president Alexander Lukashenko to halt sports in Belarus.

As we approach the end of the third week in the Premier League, the picture isn’t clear at all. It’s usually perfectly clear before the season begins in Belarus. BATE Borisov are typically the undisputed champions in Belarus, but the Premier League went in another direction last season. BATE was good again, though there was a club even better than BATE.

Dinamo Brest extinguished their 13-year run with a win in the Premier League. In 2020, we might see even more separation and parity in Belarus. BATE won yesterday, though it was only their first win and it wasn’t particularly impressive. They dispatched Rukh Brest by a score of 1-0 on an early goal from Stanislaw Drahun. With BATE looking beatable this season, it’s going to be the second straight year where the door will be open for other clubs to capitalize.

There are several clubs, at least thus far that have played adequate enough football to have a claim at the finals. It’s way early, though, so we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but the Premier League has been wide open thus far. For Sunday morning, we’ll be handicapping Isloch Minsk and SFC Slutsk. It doesn’t exactly have the best ring to it, but hey, there’s a line on it and we can bet. Head below for our free Isloch v. Slutsk pick for April 5, 2020 in the Belarusian Premier League.

Isloch Minsk vs. SFC Slutsk Prediction:

Isloch were a decent team a season ago, better than most in the Premier League, but were unable to get over the hill to compete with the bigger competition. They completed the season with a record of 13-8-9 and 47 points, which was good enough to finish 5th in the Premier League. With 16 teams in the league, it wasn’t a bad outing for Isloch in 2019. It was a solid improvement from 2018, as they improved from 8-9-13 and 33 points to basically flip their fortunes around. Isloch are off to a perfect start in 2020, as they’ve notched wins against Neman and Smolevichi.
The defence was spectacular for Isloch, as they didn’t allow a goal in either match. Their tremendous effort defensively follows what they were able to do during club friendlies in 2020. Isloch conceded only 0.86 goals per match in seven matches. During Cup competition in 2019-20, Isloch has surrendered just 0.75 goals per match. They would love to get a lead and then just allow their defence to go to work. Play keepaway and suffocating the opposing offensive attack is essentially their game plan. All things suggest that it should be able to work against Slutsk on Sunday.

Slutsk just got blanked by Dinamo Brest, 1-0, last week. Dinamo Brest is one of the best clubs the Belarusian Premier League has to offer, so that’s not a bad loss. However, after having to deal with that defence, they must turn around and compete against another top-flight defence in Isloch. Slutsk are an average club that are going to have wins in 2020, but the defensive pressure on Sunday is likely going to be too much to handle. Isloch have won two of their last three meetings by a score of 1-0. I think we’re looking at that or 2-0 for Isloch at home Sunday.
