Lecce vs. Lazio Pick – Serie A July 7, 2020

It was a big day of Serie A action on Saturday, with No. 1 Juventus and No. 2 Lazio both in play on the pitch. There was only one team smiling by the end of the day, though. Juventus continued their blazing hot trail with a 4-1 win over Torino. Ronaldo and his teammates showed no signs of slowing down, while Lazio hit a wall against AC Milan. AC Milan punched Lazio in the mouth, as they made it look easy with a 3-0 win.

With Juventus winning, it was an even bigger blow to Lazio’s chances to take the Serie A title, which looked to be within reach after the sloppy play by Juventus in the Coppa Italia. Most people seemed to be writing Juventus off and handing the title to Lazio. I jumped on Juventus immediately after their defeat in the Coppa Italia, so not I.

Juve are clear of Lazio by 7 points going into Tuesday. Matchday 31 brings another episode of Juventus and Lazio playing on the same day. This is a glorious opportunity for Lazio with Juve up against AC Milan. That should be a tough matchup for Juve to navigate. AC Milan were in fantastic form on Saturday against Lazio and could be a danger to Juve as well today.

This leaves Lazio with a terrific opportunity. If AC Milan can win or even hold Juve to a draw, Lazio can jump right back into the Serie A title race with 3 points today. If Lazio just show up and don’t put forth any effort, an upset could be there for the taking, though. Lazio enters Tuesday with a record of 21-5-4 and 68 points. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but with Juve getting hot, they need some breaks along the way.

Lecce should present an easier challenge for Lazio on Tuesday. AC Milan are by the far the more talented club. Lecce have struggled to get things under control this season, as they go into today with a record of 6-7-17 and in danger of facing relegation. Lecce owns 25 points, ahead of only Brescia and SPAL with 21 and 19 points.

They are trying to catch Genoa who are just 2 points in front of them at the moment. With eight Matchdays remaining, there’s plenty of time, along with time for Lazio to play catch up. Head below for our free Lecce vs. Lazio pick for July 7, 2020 in Serie A. We are a perfect 7-0 in Serie A with over 65% ROI going into Tuesday.

  • Under 3, 3.5 (-111)

Lecce vs. Lazio Prediction:

Lecce have had a really tough go of it in 2019-20. That might end up resulting in them getting dumped out of Serie A and into Serie B. Lecce are coming off a 4-2 loss against an average Sassuolo club. Heading into the break, Lecce were blown out by a score of 7-3 against Atalanta. Fall asleep against Atalanta and they can put up goals in a hurry. I don’t know if it was Lecce falling asleep or they’re that bad, probably a mix of both.

The layoff didn’t help at all for Lecce, because it’s been right back to regularly scheduled programming for them. Lecce have lost 4-1 against AC Milan, 4-0 against Juventus, 2-1 against Sampdoria, and 4-2 against Sassuolo. There is no surprise that Lecce owns a goal differential of -32, which is the worst mark in Serie A. Their defence is a mess and it likely won’t get better against what should be an angry Lazio squad.

Lecce has been punished for 2.33 goals conceded per match in 2019-20. With just 1.27 goals scored per match, that equates to a possible relegation for Lecce. And it doesn’t get much better at home for Lecce either, as they’ve conceded 2.13 goals per match and scored 1.4 goals at Stadio Ettore Giardiniero. As long as Lecce gets out of this campaign without getting relegated they dodged a major bullet and probably a bit lucky.

While Lazio got buried by AC Milan, they were without two of their biggest playmakers, notably Ciro Immobile who was off the pitch due to a suspension. You can’t take Immobile out and expect the same Lazio squad. Along with Immobile back in action today, Felipe Caicedo is also back for Lazio. Immobile and Caicedo combined have scored 37 goals for Lazio. Expect that to help Lazio get over their season average of 2.2 goals per match. They need a nice effort today and likely get it against struggling Lecce. A 3-0 or 4-1 win appears to be within reach.

The Bet
LAZIO -1.5, -2
