Liverpool FC vs. Arsenal FC Pick – Premier League September 28, 2020

There are two Premier League matches on Monday to get your week started. Fulham and Aston Villa will meet in the first meeting, while Liverpool and Arsenal are set for battle at Anfield in Liverpool. Unfortunately, the incredible atmosphere that people have come to know from Liverpool matches will not be present once again.

Arsenal are more than fine with that because this Liverpool squad doesn’t need any additional help. The crowd would only help to give Liverpool an advantage over the competition in the EPL. Liverpool are the defending EPL champs despite coming up short in the Champions League in 2020.

Liverpool finished atop the table with an impressive record of 32-3-3. They were miles ahead of the rest of the EPL. Liverpool finished with 99 points on the season, while the next closest club, Manchester City, were miles behind with 81 points.

The Reds left no doubts who the most superior club in the league was. Somebody is going to have to step up in 2020-21 or expect more of the same. It’s going to have to take a considerable leap forward for somebody to challenge Liverpool.

Manchester City hasn’t looked particularly sharp, and are coming off a 5-2 loss versus Leicester City, so they haven’t left any indications that they’re ready to compete. Manchester United certainly aren’t going to stand up to Liverpool either. Leicester City has looked awfully nice thus far, so maybe they will have a say, but the Reds remain the clear club to beat in the EPL.

Arsenal aren’t a bad team, but I think they’re a little ways off from the cream of the crop. They went 14-14-10 last season with 56 points. Looking for better results in this campaign, Arsenal have gotten off to a nice start with wins over Fulham and West Ham. It also includes a 2-0 win in the EFL Cup over Leicester City on September 23.

Conversely, Liverpool are off to a 2-0 start as well, including a 7-2 blowout over Lincoln City on Thursday. That was a total mismatch. This should be a quality fixture between Liverpool and Arsenal on Monday. Head below for our free Liverpool vs. Arsenal pick for September 28, 2020.

Liverpool vs. Arsenal Prediction:

There are injury concerns for Liverpool going into Monday night. If Arsenal are going to have a chance at pulling off the upset, it’ll be that much easier to do if goalkeeper Alisson Becker is absent from the pitch in this one. Alisson is a top-flight goalkeeper and would be greatly missed for the Reds. He was named by FIFA as the best goalkeeper in 2019 and received the Yanshin Trophy last season as well.

Along with Alisson a question mark for Monday night, the Reds might be without midfielder Thiago Alcantara. Liverpool can live without Alcantara, albeit he’s a terrific player, but Alisson’s absence could be concerning. Arsenal believe they can win tonight after beating Liverpool in the Community Shield this past summer in August. They won on penalties, 5-4, following a 1-1 draw in regulation.

Did Liverpool bring their top football to the Community Shield? Highly unlikely that all of their focus was there, but it does provide Arsenal with some confidence going into this match. I suspect that we’re going to see a more focused club this time around at Anfield. Since losing to Arsenal, the offence has been on fire with an average of 5 goals per match in four outings.

Meanwhile, Arsenal has netted 2.3 goals per match in three performances against Leicester City, West Ham, and Fulham. The biggest thing working against Arsenal on Monday night is that this is at Anfield. Liverpool haven’t lost there in over three years. The absence of Alisson might be what it takes to provide Liverpool with a scare in this match against the Gunners, though.

There have been at least 3 goals scored in eight of their last ten meetings. The last match at Anfield was an entertaining thriller, with Liverpool and Arsenal playing to a 5-5 draw. I’m not in favour of that many goals being scored on Monday night in Liverpool, but we should see enough to put this one OVER the posted total of 3.
