Liverpool vs. Tottenham Pick – Premier League December 16, 2020

The match of the day on Wednesday has to be in Liverpool at Anfield between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. There is a lot of football available for wagering on Wednesday across Europe, notably the elite leagues in Italy, England, and Spain. Along with this selection in Premier League competition, TheSportsGeek is in Italy for a Serie A match between Juventus and Atalanta in Torino.

We have a free pick for that match as well. If you are from the US and don’t like college basketball, there isn’t much else on the menu besides horse racing. However, a trip over the pond to Europe yields a lot of action. I happen to like and handicap all three sports, so all good with me. Liverpool have been adequate recently.

That is about as much as I will say about them. They didn’t look interested against Midtjylland in the Champions League and Fulham. Liverpool earned a point in each match, which is fine, but they didn’t play up to their full expectation. Maybe they were just a little bored and didn’t give it their all. Certainly, the argument could be made for their match against Midtjylland on December 9.

Liverpool had absolutely nothing to play for in that match. Group D was wrapped up for Liverpool and they didn’t need to exert too much effort in that contest. Let’s be honest, Liverpool didn’t want to be in Denmark for that match. Then they went into Fulham without the most focus and drive on the road, and left two points out there in a 1-1 draw. Despite the two performances by Liverpool, they are sitting nicely with a record of 7-4-1 and 25 points.

The 25 points puts them in a tie with Tottenham atop the Premier League table. Tottenham will seek an upset on the road, and have been in fine enough form in the 2020-21 campaign to pull it off. They finished well back of Liverpool last season. Tottenham registered a mark of 16-11-11 and 59 points a season ago, which dwarfed Liverpool’s 99 points. Head below for our free Liverpool vs. Tottenham pick for December 16, 2020.

Liverpool vs. Tottenham Prediction:

Liverpool feel good about repeating this season in the Premier League. They have important matters to get to in the Champions League as well. The Round of 16 will begin for Liverpool on February 16 against Red Bull Leipzig. There are no guarantees, but Liverpool is likely feeling confident about advancing. Meanwhile, in the Premier League, Liverpool’s only defeat came on September 5 against Aston Villa on the road. Following that loss, Liverpool hasn’t felt what defeat feels like.

There have been draws mixed in there, but Liverpool has otherwise looked like the same club from last year when they raised the EPL trophy. Even without fans, Anfield has been a house of horrors for the opposition. Liverpool doesn’t know how to lose at home. Many have tried, but Liverpool is the best in England at protecting their pitch. Note that the Liverpool offence has been on a dangerous attack consistently in the 2020-21 campaign.

They’ve recorded a mighty impressive 3 goals per match at Anfield and conceding 1 goal per match. On the road, Liverpool has scored just 1.5 goals and conceded 2 goals per match. Conversely, Tottenham hasn’t been scared about going on the road in 2020-21. Through 12 matches, Tottenham has notched 2.33 goals and conceded 0.67 per match as a visitor in the current EPL campaign. This is a difficult opponent, though that they haven’t had success against in recent memory.

Liverpool are winners in five straight matches versus Tottenham. Working in their favor is a lengthy injury report for Liverpool. Most recently added to the injury list is Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas. At least five other contributors for Liverpool will be absent on Wednesday, with the possibility of no Naby Keita as well. Liverpool are ripe for an upset tonight, though this looks like a draw to me. They keep the undefeated streak going, but escape with just 1-point against the sizzling Spurs.
