Los Angeles FC @ Colorado Rapids MLS Pick – October 6th

Welcome to my MLS Soccer picks, and with the season now approaching the final straight there’s plenty of betting opportunities available for us all to make more money off the bookies.

We’re fast approaching the end of the regular season in the MLS and the heat has been turned up as teams jostle for the last remaining play-off spots— Kickoff: 2100hrs (EST)

Under siege Colorado Rapids return to their Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver for Saturday night’s clash with fellow Western Conference outfit Los Angeles FC with the hosts desperate for a win.

Colorado find themselves second from bottom in the Conference with just 24 points to their name and are a  massive 22 points adrift of a top six place.

With just four matches remaining of the regular season in the MLS it’s needless to say that Colorado have no chance of attaining a play-off spot now, thanks to a dreadful run of results for the hosts.

The home side have lost their last six league matches on the trot and are without a win from their last seven  as their form has taken an alarming turn for the worse.

The Rapids come into this clash having suffered defeats to these evening’s opponents (Los Angeles FC) at home, Real Salt Lake, Portland Timbers, Atlanta United, Columbus Crew and Seattle Sounders.

During this appalling sequence of results, Colorado Rapids have conceded a total of 19 goals and have scored just 1 in reply – the hosts are therefore expected to have their work cut out here this evening!

The bigger picture tells us that Colorado Rapids have won just 6 of their 30 league matches to date, 5 of which have been achieved at their Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Home Form & Team News

Despite their miserable run of losing results in the past weeks, Colorado Rapids have lost just three of their last eight on home turf which at first glance doesn’t look too bad for the hosts.

However, they come into this encounter having suffered back-to-back defeats to Real Salt Lake and Atlanta United, and it’s been the nature of these defeats that have been alarming.

A 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Real Salt Lake was further compounded by a 3-0 loss to Atlanta United as Colorado’s defence has just crumbled in recent matches.

The Rapids possess a home record that stands at  5-3-7  22/28 and only bottom club, San Jose Earthquakes (36 goals) have conceded more goals at home in the division than Saturday night’s hosts.

Midfielder, Sam Nicholson (2 goals) and forward John McBean (2 goals) have both been ruled out with injury, while manager Anthony Hudson will be sweating on the fitness of midfielder Bismarck Boateng and striker Shkelzen Gashi (2 goals).

A lack of goals has undone the hosts in their last two home matches as they’ve failed to score, but they’ll be desperate to produce a better showing in this evening’s encounter.

Los Angeles FC head over to Denver on the back of a heavy 3-1 defeat at Chicago Fire which put an end to their promising six-match unbeaten run as the visitors look to close in on an automatic Final Series spot.

That recent defeat in Chicago has slowed down Los Angeles’s progress but they’ll no doubt be keen to quickly return to winning ways in this evening’s clash as they’re just two points behind second placed Sporting Kansas ahead of this weekend’s action.

Recent wins over Real Salt Lake 2-0, Colorado Rapids 2-0, Toronto FC 4-2 and San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 have helped lift the visitors into serious contention for a top two finish in the Western Conference.

Despite their loss to Chicago Fire, Los Angeles have scored in each of their last seven MLS matches on the trot and their aptitude in putting the ball in the back of the net could well be the determining factor in deciding the outcome of this clash.

Away Form & Team News

The visitors have posted just two away wins from their last nine matches on their travels which were gained at San Jose Earthquakes in a thrilling 4-3 victory along with a 4-2 win at Toronto FC.

However, five defeats during this nine-match sequence means that the visitors are by no means guaranteed of taking all three points in Denver on Saturday night.

Equally, an away record of  6-2-7  32/35 indicates Los Angeles’s inconsistency on the road, but this upcoming match represents a golden opportunity for the visitors to maintain their challenge for a top two finish.

The positive aspect of Los Angeles’s results away from home though has been the fact that they’ve scored in  14 of their 15 away matches to date this season, and they possess far superior firepower than their hosts in this one.

Los Angeles manager, Bob Bradley will be without five players for their trip to Denver as Quillan Roberts, Mark-Anthony Kaye, Aaron Kovar, Latif Blessing (6 assists) and Danilo Silva are all expected to miss out through injuries.

Nevertheless, Los Angeles possess a very potent attacking trio of Carlos Vela (11 goals, 7 assists), Diego Rossi (10 goals, 6 assists) and Adama Diomande (9 goals) who have accounted for over half of the visitors total of 58 goals so far this season.

Bradley will be hoping that his side can outscore their opponents this evening, and as Colorado have failed to score in their last two at home and in five of their last six overall, this could be a real possibility.

The Wrap-up

It would be a remarkable achievement for Los Angeles if they could grab a top two finish in their first season  as a MLS franchise club, and as such, their only previous encounter with Colorado Rapids ended with a 2-0 win for tonight’s visitors.

We could see another similar scoreline this evening in favour of Los Angeles as they have plenty of incentive to grab all three points here.
