Managua FC vs. CD Walter Ferretti Pick – Liga Primera de Nicaragua April 29, 2020

The Liga Primera de Nicaragua continues into Matchday 19 of the regular season on Wednesday. There are two matches on the docket, as Managua FC and CD Walter Ferretti will tangle and Real Esteli FC and Diriangen FC will do battle as well. We’re nearing the end of the year, with two of these four teams going to the finals. These two matches represent the semifinals of the Liga Primera de Nicaragua.

While there’s a lot of time left in the Belarusian Premier League, football in Nicaragua is nearly coming to a conclusion. I’m not so sure players are going to be too sad about that news. There was growing concern regarding playing during a pandemic among players, but they won’t have to worry about that soon. The majority of clubs are done playing anyway, with four of the best in the Liga Primera de Nicaragua left standing.

Managua and Real Esteli were granted automatic bids to the semifinals for finishing No. 1 and 2 in the regular season. Meanwhile, Walter Ferretti and Diriangen had to win their matches against Jalapa and Juventus Managua to advance. Ferretti won in impressive fashion, as they blew the doors open against Jalapa for a 5-1 victory. Conversely, Diriangen played a steady game for a 1-0 victory.

Regardless of how this season ends for these four clubs, it’s been a successful season. I think for Managua and Real Esteli exciting the season without a championship would sting. Especially Managua who has played at the top of the ladder throughout the regular season. They posted a record of 13-3-2 in the regular season and had a comfortable lead over Real Esteli with 42 points.

It’s been a while since Managua has lost a game. They won four straight games to wrap up the regular season. Including four ties, Managua hasn’t been a losing club in the Liga Primera since March 1 in a massive upset against Deportivo Ocotal. That’s 13 straight matches without a loss. Don’t sleep on Walter Ferretti, who were hot to end the regular season, but ended it with a loss against Managua, 1-0. Ferretti notched a mark of 9-3-6 and 30 points to finish 4th. Managua FC vs. CD Walter Ferretti Prediction:

Managua has been the class of the Liga Primera this season. If they come to the pitch and play their complete game then good results follow. Their loss against Ocotal was a rare instance of not arriving to play and paid for it with a loss. In any event, they made up for it several times over with a record of 9-3-0 since that loss. Walter Ferretti did what they had to do in the first-leg of their semifinal matchup against Managua.

They got the draw, but that was at home where they were able to catch Managua with an average. However, Ferretti is going to have to be better on Wednesday or it’s likely going to be a loss. Managua on the road versus at home is a different animal. I think it was imperative that Ferretti won that game.

On the road, Managua have scored 1.1 goals per match while allowing 1.24 goals. That’s incredibly average for a team that lead the ladder in the regular season. It makes a little more sense when you see what they’ve done at home, though. They’ve recorded 2.38 goals per match and allowed just 0.95 goals per in 2019-20. In two matches in the Copa Nicaragua, Managua scored 7.5 goals per match and shut out the opposition for no goals conceded.

Ferretti spanked Municipal Jalapa to reach the semifinal, but were faced with tougher company in the next round. Having said that, hanging on for a tie against Managua wasn’t a bad result. I hold that it was a must-win spot, though. Now they’re on the road against a Managua who doesn’t lose in their own stadium.

Ferretti has scored 2 goals per match and 0.9 goals per match at home, though those numbers fall to 1.11 goals per match and 0.95 conceded on the road. Still respectable, but they’re likely going to need more to bypass Managua. In their last trip on the road to face Managua, they were edged out by a score of 1-0. Two of their previous three meetings resulted in 1-0 wins for Managua. Expect something similar in the second-leg of the Liga Primera de Nicaragua between Managua FC and CD Walter Ferretti on Wednesday.
