What an exhilarating Matchday Two of English Premier League soccer it has been thus far. Normally we are only treated to a Saturday and Sunday of EPL action, but for this week it’s nice that it spreads over into Monday, and there’s quite the treat awaiting avid English soccer fans.
For Monday evening it’ll be ‘Monday Night Football’ of a different variety as an upstart Everton side travels to Manchester to take on a powerful Manchester City squad that many are pegging to win the league.
Everton looked stellar last week and have since bolstered their attack by going out and signing attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City. The Icelandic international should add even more flair and skill going forward on a surprisingly loaded Everton group.
For City, they cruised last week against newly promoted Brighton & Hove Albion. Though it took some time for an eventual breakthrough, once they got it – it was all City from then on. This is a team with virtually no deficiencies, and after a stellar and controlling opening outing – especially on the defensive side of things, you’ve got to like City’s chances at winning back the league this season.
It’s always exciting to see two of the EPL’s better teams square off early in the campaign, and that’s exactly what we’ll be treated to on Monday. Expect a lot of chances, goals, and thrilling soccer from Man City & Everton, and read on below for our final betting prediction of Week 2.

Manchester City vs. Everton Pick:
As you can see from the betting odds listed above, Man City enters this fixture as decisive favourites. Despite Everton’s improvements, City remains the class of this league right now. And until another team steps up (perhaps their rivals across town in Man United), City will be priced like this, especially at home.
The pricing however shouldn’t take away from the fact that Everton remain a very solid side, and one that is a virtual lock for the top half of the table, and also one that could legitimately challenge for a top-6 finish. While questions remain about their ability to defend, they are as skilled going forward as any team in the EPL, perhaps aside from their opponents Monday night.
Expect this to be a free-flowing and fast-paced affair. There will be a ton of chances and direct play, and this should translate to some goals – as indicated by a high goal-line. Everton does have a Europa League match in the middle of the week however, so it will be interesting to monitor their team selection. They may choose to rest some of their key players if this game against Man City is lost in the early going.
Look for a comfortable Manchester City victory, but one in which they show some old habits, specifically with some creaks in their defense. Everton has the skill and quality to expose them, and look for Rooney, Sigurdsson, and Sandro Ramirez up front to really test the City back-three. City are on a mission this year, and with a season already under competitive manager Pep Guardiola’s belt – it’s win or bust. Guardiola also remembers the last time he played Everton – a crushing 4-0 defeat. Expect them to put up goals, but Everton to also nick one as well. There is too much talent going forward, and too many questions at the back – for both sides. Thus, the play for Monday evening will be Both Teams To Score (BTTS) between Man City/Everton. The odds are too steep to just simply call a City victory, but there’s definite value on both teams finding the net.
PICK = Both Teams To Score (+110)
