Manchester United vs. Paris Saint-Germain Pick – Champions League December 2, 2020

One of the biggest matches in the Champions League on Wednesday is between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. PSG needs a win to avoid the Europa League group stage. They are tied in a deadlock at 6 points with Leipzig at the moment, so they cannot afford to slip up here. Manchester United continues to lead Group H with a record of 3-0-1 and 9 points.

They can get into a tie with Manchester United if they locate three points at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. The top-2 teams from each group move on to the knockout round of the Champions League, so winning Group H isn’t required. They do, however, need to break out of the deadlock with Leipzig.

This is a rematch from October 20 in Paris. Manchester United went on the road as underdogs and pulled off an impressive upset to earn a 2-1 win. Marcus Rashford broke up a 1-1 tie at the 87th minute to put Manchester United ahead by a score of 2-1. PSG was unable to respond with minutes remaining, and all three points went to the underdogs.

PSG had to be caught off guard with the effort from Manchester United. They can’t use that as an excuse if they play another sloppy match this evening. PSG has to be well aware of what Manchester United can bring to the pitch on Wednesday. They’ve been in solid form and getting their supporters excited lately.

Manchester United are on a four-match winning streak, with wins over Everton, West Brom, Istanbul, and Southampton most recently on November 29. Their last loss was in the Champions League on November 4 in Turkey. In an upset, Istanbul emerged victorious with a 2-1 win. There was no fooling around for Manchester United in the rematch, though. Manchester United torched Istanbul, 4-1, on November 24. Head below for our free Manchester United vs. PSG pick for December 2, 2020.

Manchester United vs. PSG Prediction:

PSG were in a close to what we consider a must-win spot against Leipzig last week. Lose out on three points there, and it would have been awfully difficult for them to get to the next round in the Champions League. PSG settled in nicely, though, and dispatched Leipzig by a score of 1-0 at home. This made up for an earlier 2-1 loss against Leipzig.

That was a frustrating match for PSG, as they were down 2-0, and then were awarded a red card at the 69th minute to Idrissa Gueye. PSG was able to break up the shutout at 90+5, but that was the only positive for them in that match. Fortunately, the defence was able to play a much crisper match in their next meeting. The same will have to happen for PSG in their rematch versus Manchester City tonight.

PSG are coming off a 2-2 draw against Bordeaux on Saturday. They were the aggressors in that match, with 9 shots on target as opposed to 4 for Bordeaux. PSG also won the time of possession easily 66% to 34%. The final score didn’t add up in favour of PSG, though. In four Champions League matches, PSG has been fine with 1.25 goals and 1 goal conceded per match.

Conversely, Manchester United has recorded 3 goals and conceded 1 goal per match. Statistically, they have the upper hand, and based on recent form, Manchester United is the most logical selection here. However, motivation has to be in PSG favour on Wednesday given the current situation in Group H.

Not only did they lose as underdogs to Manchester United in their last meeting, but PSG really needs three points badly. Manchester United is sitting a lot more comfortable in Group H. Expect the extra hunger from PSG to be the difference in this match. This should be close, but I’m backing PSG to edge Manchester United out by a score of 2-1.
