Manchester United vs. Tottenham Pick – EPL June 19

Undoubtedly the marquee matchup of the EPL’s triumphant return this week will occur Friday afternoon as Manchester United host Tottenham in what could have huge implications later in the season.

Both of these proud squads will be the first to admit that they could and perhaps should be higher in the table. With a sprint to the finish looming as games have since condensed from the restart, the emphasis on securing positive results is at an all-time high.

Both United and the Spurs have also used the pause in play to strengthen their lineups and get healthy. These groups do have impressive depth and talent, but Friday’s encounter should bring out the strongest lineups either coach has fielded all season with their groups.

And speaking of coaches – it will surely be interesting as former Man United manager Jose Mourinho looks down from the opposing touchline, now in charge of the hard-charging Tottenham Hotspur. It adds some extra intrigue and drama, in a match that should be filled with talented displays and excitement.

Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur Pick:

This really should be an unbelievable clash, and provide football fans and bettors alike a stark reminder of why the Premier League remains must-see TV on a weekly basis.

With all the squad depth and talent on display, we should see excitement – and when you add in the Mourinho element, along with the pressure for Champions League positions, it has the formula to create quite the encounter this Friday afternoon.

The pause came at an ideal time for the Spurs, as they entered the break winless in their last six contests. This remains a talented group, and with added time to understand Mourinho’s system and gain familiarity – they’re certainly a squad to watch down the stretch.

It also helped them regain full fitness, as star striker Harry Kane is ready to again lead the line for Tottenham. He’ll be joined in good health by key talents such as Moussa Sissoko, Son Heung-min, and Steven Bergwijn – all of whom should help immediately on Friday. It is worth noting that the Spurs will be without key attacking piece Dele Alli – following a controversial video was posted mocking the coronavirus crisis.

On the other side of the pitch, Man United are also expected to be as close to full fitness as they’ve been all season long. Key midfield piece Paul Pogba should be available for selection, while star striker Marcus Rashford will surely be eager to get back into the lineup. United’s attack was in fine form before the break, with Frenchman Anthony Martial and Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes showcasing excellent link-play and finishing ability.

In this contest, it should provide quite the clash of styles. Unless Mourinho surprises, he’s been shifting the Spurs into a more defensively sound group, a squad which is content to counter with pace and catch teams on the break with elite speed and scoring ability. That said, United have fared well against teams that do that – and are surely content to put their speed and attacking prowess up against anybody right now. With Rashford and Daniel James manning each of the wings, United will be keen for that approach against the Spurs.

At the moment, more trust and recent form tilts the edge to Manchester United. They were better last time out, and are certainly a lot more capable both in goal, and at the back. While Harry Kane will cause problems, United’s pace and attacking flair up front can and will trouble a central defender pairing of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Verthongen. Expect Bruno Fernandes’ scoring form to pick up where it left off, while the extreme pace of Marcus Rashford will be too much for Tottenham’s Serge Aurier to handle.

Expect an early goal and that could open things up in an exciting affair. While the Spurs will try to be organized and structurally sound, they’ll be forced to open things up, likely only further playing to United’s advantage. In terms of prop bets, do consider ‘Both Teams to Score’ but the best value in this contest lies with a rapidly improving Manchester United points to seize the full three points on Friday.
