Following a brief hiatus, the Premier League will get going once again this weekend with a thrilling slate of games. Our picks to date have been pretty successful, and despite all of the crazy and unpredictable nature of Premier League soccer – the top teams have still maintained their perches atop the table.
One general powerhouse side that is going through a period of transition are the Gunners of Arsenal. After saying goodbye to their long-time manager Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery has brought in new tactics and a new approach to the popular north London side. And though under Emery the Gunners have endured mixed results so far, a recent winning streak has brought in a new wave of optimism for their new approach. They’ll head north on Saturday, looking to keep their upward trajectory going.

Newcastle United vs. Arsenal Pick:
While the Gunners have bounced back from a less-than-thrilling start, the Magpies of Newcastle certainly have not. All of their pre-season concerns surrounding the squad composition have manifested themselves early on this campaign, and as a result Newcastle have only mustered just one point from an available 12, through four matches.
Rafa Benitez is surely frustrated with his players and ownership, and you really do wonder how much longer the talented manager will tough it out there. This is a team that is better than they are showing at the moment, but the atmosphere surrounding the popular club seems demoralizing. Another area of concern for the Magpies has been a punchless attack. Newcastle have generated very little offense this season, in fact they only managed four shots at goal from their past two outings. Against an Arsenal team that likes to possess the ball, they’ll need to be far more opportunistic when/if they get chances.
For the Gunners, they’ve been getting better and better with each passing week and look for that to continue again on Saturday. Arsenal are certainly evolving and have had many key players step up in recent weeks. Up front, Alexandre Lacazette is in fine form having been directly involved in seven goals from his past five starts. He’s becoming more familiar with the EPL and that should translate into better results for the Gunners.
This week look for Lacazette to receive talented support with Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil playing off of him. The Gunners will need to be creative in the final third as Newcastle will likely stick with five defenders at the back. Expect Emery to have his troops prepped for another big road outing, and ultimately the skill and possession of the Gunners should wear down Newcastle. With them playing five at the back, they’ve been defeating themselves from the outset – failing to muster a proper attack going forward. That shell that Newcastle puts themselves in will be tough to break through, but once the Gunners find their way – they’ll be en route to another comfortable victory. Take Arsenal as small road favorites on Saturday.
PICK = Arsenal (-114)
