Real Madrid vs. Athletic Bilbao Pick – La Liga December 15, 2020

Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao square up on Tuesday at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano for a La Liga clash. The Champions League is off until February where the Round of 16 will begin in the knockout stage. That will allow Real Madrid to focus on the La Liga slate for the next couple of months.

Real Madrid finished atop Group B with a record of 3-1-2 and 10 points in the Champions League table. They held off Shakhtar and Monchengladbach by two points to secure top honours in the group. Real Madrid will play Atalanta in an intriguing matchup in the next round. That should be an even contest in February.

Meanwhile, in La Liga, Real Madrid are in the top-3 with Real Sociedad and Atlético Madrid. Credit has to be given to Real Sociedad and Madrid, who have been awfully impressive to open the 2020-21 campaign. Real Sociedad finished sixth in the La Liga table last year, while Atlético Madrid was third behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.

I don’t know how long they can sustain this before Real Madrid gets hot and takes over, but Barcelona has been terribly disappointing thus far. They go into the new week with a record of 5-2-4 and 17 points. As frustrating as it was for Lionel Messi and Real to fall to Barcelona at the top of the table last year, they look focused in this campaign thus far, and Barca are looking for answers.

Real Madrid looks to stay hot after four straight wins. Athletic Bilbao hopes to pull off an upset, or even record a point at Real Madrid on Tuesday. I am sure they would be more than content with a point on the road against a foe like Real Madrid.

Real Madrid goes into Tuesday with a record of 7-2-3 in La Liga with 23 points, three shy of Real Sociedad and Atletico who are tied. Conversely, Bilbao are 13th with a record of 4-2-6 and 14 points. Head below for our free Real Madrid vs. Athletic Bilbao pick for December 15, 2020.

Real Madrid vs. Athletic Bilbao Prediction:

Real Madrid are on a roll recently with four straight wins between the Champions League and La Liga. They most recently defeated Atletico Madrid by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. It was the third game in four outings that Real Madrid were victors by the score of 2-0. The other two wins came against Shakhtar Donetsk and Monchengladbach. They also had a nice 1-0 win against a quality Sevilla club on the road.

Their most impressive recent win has to be from November 25 against Inter Milan on the road. Real Madrid dispatched Inter Milan, 2-0, on the road in Milan for one impressive performance. When Real Madrid applies themselves, any team in Europe is going to have problems against them. Real Madrid are especially dangerous at home, with an average of 1.6 goals and 0.8 goals conceded per match.

Athletic Bilbao are looking for their first win since November 20. That was a 4-0 win over Real Betis at home. Since then, Athletic Bilbao has a draw against Getafe, 1-1, loss against Celta Vigo, 2-0, and draw against Valencia, 2-2. Nothing impressive from those three matches, and the club they beat, Real Betis, is nothing to get excited over. Their last impressive win was on October 20 against Sevilla at home, 2-1.

They have struggled on the road, with just 0.86 goals and 1.46 goals conceded per match. If Bilbao wanted an upset on Tuesday, it would have been much better to get Real at home. They’ve had a really hard time against Real in past matches. They only have one win, which came all the way back in 2010. Real has 11 wins, while they’ve drawn in five matches. This looks like a 2-0 in favour of the home side on Tuesday.
