We have four matches on the La Liga schedule before the league goes dark for the Christmas break. La Liga will return on December 29 with four more matches. It was a productive day at the office for Barcelona yesterday. Barcelona made it look easy with a 3-0 win over Valladolid on the road. The road trip did not bother Barca, and they deserved all three points in that showing. They won the time of possession easily by 62% as opposed to 38% for Valladolid. Lionel Messi hasn’t been happy about his situation, but he looked thrilled on Tuesday.
Messi scored the third goal to put Barca up by a score of 3-0 and essentially the game was out of reach then at the 65th minute. Elsewhere in La Liga, Real Sociedad continues to slip after Atletico Madrid put together a class performance on the road in a 2-0 win. Real Sociedad were hot to open the campaign, and were jockeying for position at the top with Atletico Madrid. However, it’s clear, the way I see it, that Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona are the top clubs in Spain. Messi transfer rumors continue to swirl, so we’ll see what comes of that.
Real Sociedad are on a three-match losing streak, though thanks to their hot start they still own a piece of the top-3 in the table. They are in a tie with Villarreal for third in La Liga with 26 points. Barca are reeling both clubs in, as they’ve been hot and have collected nine points in their previous three outings. They will head into the next matchday with a record of 7-3-4 and 24 points. Real Madrid and Barca have both played 24 matches, with Real Madrid at 9-2-3 with 29 points. They will need three points on Wednesday to draw even with Atletico in the table.
Granada are holding tough and have been in great form recently. They enter this match with a record of 6-3-4 and 21 points. That puts them three points behind Barcelona for what is currently the Europa League group stage. Barcelona supporters would not be too keen with a Europa League bid. In the current Champions League, they will meet PSG in what should be an entertaining affair in the Round of 16. Granada are currently playing in the Europa League after finishing seventh in La Liga last season. Head below for our free Real Madrid vs. Granada pick for December 23, 2020.
Real Madrid vs. Granada La Liga Betting Odds:
Real Madrid vs. Granada Prediction:
Granada have a tough challenge ahead of them on Wednesday, though their current form has been excellent. If they bring a similar effort to Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano today, then Real Madrid is going to have to work for a win in this spot. Granada enters with wins over Real Betis, 2-0, and Elche, 1-0. They haven’t lost a match since November 29 against Celta Vigo, 3-1.
The obvious problem for Granada going into this match is that Real Betis and Elche are not Real Madrid. Real Betis is currently 12th in the table, while Elche is on the cusp of relegation in 16th in the La Liga table. Prior to beating Real Betis and Elche, Granada took a draw against Huesca, 3-3, lost against Celta Vigo, 3-1, and then two losses in a row versus Real Sociedad, 2-0, and Valladolid, 3-1.
Do you see any quality clubs included in that list of matches Granada has played in the last month? Celta Vigo is the best of that bunch and they’re only eighth in the table with a record of 5-4-5. In summary, Granada has not had to play any dangerous opponents in a long while. The skill of Real Madrid is likely going to catch them by surprise after facing a bunch of beatable clubs for over a month.
Granada have been abysmal on the road. Their roster has failed to show up time and time again. A trip to Madrid probably won’t provide a fix for their road woes as well. Granada have netted just 0.83 goals and conceded 2 goals per match on the road. Conversely, Real Madrid gives up the same, 0.83 goals per match at home. Their offence has scored 1.83 goals per match in the 2020-21 campaign.
Real Madrid have won their previous five matches, including a 2-0 Champions League win over Borussia. In their last four outings, Real Madrid has won by at least 2 goals in each match. Granada shouldn’t pose much of a roadblock on Wednesday. In the head-to-head comparison, Real Madrid are winners in 13 of 14 games against Granada. It likely becomes 14 of 15 today. Real Madrid look like a 2-0 or 3-0 winning club on Wednesday.
