The La Liga 2020-21 campaign continues on Tuesday with six matches across Spain for the 15th matchday of the season. It feels like things are just flying right by this season in Europe. This entire year has been a blur for me and many others, so it isn’t just the La Liga campaign that has felt like that. The table in La Liga at the moment might come as a surprise to some people. This hasn’t been a campaign dominated by Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad have both been in good form, and represent the top-3 of the La Liga table. That isn’t to say things can’t change in a hurry, and the tide appears to be changing, at least for Real Sociedad. Real Sociedad has suffered two straight losses and hasn’t won in their last five matches.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid has been on fire and jumped right over them in the table. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are currently tied at the top with 29 points each. Real Madrid are winners in four straight matches to collect 12 points. Best of luck to Atletico Madrid in keeping up.
Barcelona have been quietly asserting themselves recently as well. It was a slow start for Barcelona, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them catch up and threaten Real and Atletico Madrid. Barcelona goes into Tuesday with a record of 6-3-4 and 21 points. They’re eight points behind, with plenty of matchdays left on the calendar to reel them in. It could be without Lionel Messi, though. Rumors of Lionel Messi receiving a transfer continue to heat up.
He has not been content with playing in Barcelona. That has not been a secret, and he’s been pretty public about his situation. Since Real Madrid overtook Barcelona to win the La Liga title last season, he has been visibly frustrated with the club. In any case, Barcelona has been playing well recently, and should be able to clear Valladolid on the road Tuesday. Head below for our free Valladolid vs. Barcelona pick for December 22, 2020.
Real Valladolid vs. FC Barcelona La Liga Betting Odds:
Valladolid vs. Barcelona Prediction:
Valladolid has a tough assignment on Tuesday at Jose Zorrilla Stadium. Fortunately, they have their home pitch to welcome Barcelona to, but they might need a couple of bounces to go their way for a win. Valladolid enters Tuesday with a record of 3-5-6 and 14 points. They would be facing relegation if the season came to an end today. Valladolid is tied with three other clubs at 14 points. Huesca and Osasuna trail with 11 points. Valladolid has been playing decent football compared to some of these other bottom clubs currently.
I will give this club a lot of credit for their most recent effort against Sevilla, though. Valladolid was able to force a draw on the road versus the superior Sevilla. Note that Valladolid has earned at least a point in five of their last six matches. That includes three wins, two draws, and a loss. Their biggest test during that stretch against Atletico Madrid didn’t go too smoothly, though. Atletico Madrid imposed their will in a 2-0 win on December 5. Barcelona is the best club that Valladolid has faced since that loss.
The history against Barcelona has not been pretty for Valladolid. They’ve played 17 times, with Barcelona winning 13 matches, while Valladolid has managed to record just one win. Valladolid won in 2014 in an upset, but that’s their only reason to celebrate against Barca. In the 2020-21 campaign, Valladolid has posted a goal differential mark of -6. They’ve netted 1.07 goals and conceded 1.5 per match through 14 matches in the La Liga campaign. Conversely, Barca have scored 1.92 goals and conceded 1.08 goals going into Tuesday. Valladolid should put up a better fight in this one than many expect, but a 2-0 or 3-1 win looks accurate.
