Real Valladolid vs. FC Barcelona Pick – La Liga July 11, 2020

Real Madrid handled their business with a 2-0 win over Alaves at home. Alaves did their best to do a favour for Barcelona, but Real were just too much. We were able to cash part of our -1.5 -2 wager yesterday on Real Madrid. With the win on the -1.5 and push on -2, it essentially amounts to a -220 win.

It could have been better, but I will always take the profit. Karim Benzema got the party started early on a penalty kick to put Real up 1-0 at the 11th minute. Marco Asensio added a goal shortly into the second half and that was the only thing required to bank a 2-0 victory.

Now the onus turns to Barcelona on Saturday against Valladolid. A win would put Barcelona right back in the thick of things for a 1-point deficit. Real Madrid are currently up on Barcelona by 4 points going into Saturday. They advanced to 24-8-3 with 80 points as a result of their solid performance.

Real Madrid were short handed in that one defensively, but were in great form on defence. There are just three Matchdays left for Real Madrid on the calendar in La Liga. Barcelona has just three fixtures left on their schedule, hence a loss or even a draw against Valladolid would be a killer to their La Liga title chances.

Valladolid are comfortably out of relegation territory with a record of 8-15-12 and 39 points. While they won’t be getting relegated, Valladolid aren’t going to be able to catch Getafe for a Europa League Qualifier spot. Getafe are sixth in La Liga with 53 points, so that is unattainable for Valladolid. In other words, there really isn’t much for Valladolid to play for on Saturday.

That could easily work in their favour, though. Valladolid are going to be playing freely without anything to worry about. Conversely, Barcelona has everything on the line Saturday. Some clubs just give up and don’t care when there isn’t anything to play for, and others play loosely with nothing to lose. Head below for our free Real Valladolid vs. FC Barcelona pick for July 11, 2020.

Total Points:

  • Over 2.5, 3 (-115)
  • Under 2.5, 3 (-105)

Real Valladolid vs. FC Barcelona Prediction:

Barcelona can’t afford to go to Valladolid with a lackadaisical attitude. I think watching what Real Madrid did against Alaves should be enough motivation for Barca on Saturday. They know that a win is required on the road in this one. Barca were handed some tough news when Frankie de Jong didn’t travel with the team to play Valladolid. He’s been battling a muscle injury and Barca are in no hurry to rush him back.

While that isn’t good news for Barca, there’s plenty of unfortunate news on the injury front for Valladolid. The injury list is long for Valladolid, as there are five regular contributors that are expected to be unavailable on Saturday. The absence of De Jong for Barca hurts, but depth should be a concern for the home side in this one.

Up front, Barcelona will have the services of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Antoine Griezmann. That’s still going to be a dangerous attack to contain for Valladolid without a fully healthy unit. Valladolid are coming off a 2-1 loss versus Valencia. Scoring has been a major concern for Valladolid in the 2019-20 La Liga campaign.

Valladolid doesn’t have the playmakers on their side to get into high-scoring matches. They have netted just 0.83 goals overall, while 0.94 goals scored per match at home. Defensively, Valladolid has conceded an average of 1.11 goals per match. In their last meeting against Barcelona, there was zero defence on October 23, 2019.

They conceded 5 goals in a 5-1 loss on the road. Holding Barcelona to a 1-1 draw here looks like a best-case scenario for Valladolid. However, with injuries mounting and a hungry Barcelona squad on the other side, I’m looking at a 2-0 win for Barcelona, as they match Real Madrid’s performance from yesterday.
