SFC Slutsk vs. FC Vitebsk Pick – Belarusian Premier League April 11, 2020

There are three matches on the docket in the Belarusian Premier League on Saturday. We’ll hope to find a couple of winners in Belarus on this card. Belarusian football as the main sports betting event is unfortunately the new normal. With Korean and Taiwainese baseball almost ready to resume and hold a regular season schedule, we will get into that when they get things rolling.

The Chinatrust Brothers and Rakuten Monkeys will get Taiwanese baseball underway on Saturday in front of robot fans. I’m not really sure if they’re just going to sit motionless like a typical mannequin, chant, or what, but it’s going to be interesting. I’m going to wait for a few games to get played through before providing picks, but will likely focus on that league primarily, and Korean baseball when it ultimately returns.

It was an uneventful day on Friday, with Neman Grodno and Belshina Bobruisk drawing for a 1-1 final. I liked a draw there, but went with the UNDER instead as my official play. A draw is better than a loss, though a +230 winner would have been a lot nicer. I prefer handicapping baseball, so expect to have better results on the diamond in Asia. Korea is expected to open their season in early May.

Major League Baseball wants an early May start in Arizona. That doesn’t seem too realistic. Another idea is realigning the divisions and having separate leagues in Florida and Arizona. They continue to brainstorm ways to open the MLB season, and it’s good to be prepared for every scenario, but they’re not on their timetable. The direction of the virus is going to dictate the schedule.

Belarus doesn’t seem to care one way or the other. That goes for sports and other industries in the country. Attendance at matches is dropping significantly, though the doors are still open for fans that want to go to matches. SFC Slutsk are looking to avoid a letdown spot against FC Vitebsk on Saturday. They’re coming off an upset win over Isloch, as Slutsk made it look easy against one of the best defences in Belarus.

Slutsk emerged with a 3-2 win in an impressive showing. Conversely, Vitebsk just netted a 1-0 win over Smolevichy. Not as impressive, but a 2-0-1 start is nice for a Vitebsk club hoping to surprise in 2020. Head below for our free Slutsk vs. Vitebsk pick for April 11, 2020 in the Belarusian Premier League.

FC Slutsk vs. FC Vitebsk Prediction:

Both of these clubs are looking to build on what could have been better seasons in 2019. Slutsk were 9-7-14 and finished with 34 points for a goal differential of -17 last season. It wasn’t nearly good enough to qualify for the playoffs. Meanwhile, Vitebsk just barely avoided relegation with their record of 8-7-15 and 31 points. They were one loss away from getting demoted. Vitebsk finished the year with a goal differential of -15. In the early stages of the 2020 campaign, but both clubs are above the .500 mark, so that’s a start.

That’s not to say that it’s sustainable, though. With only three games played, there isn’t a large enough sample size for us to derive any conclusions from. The most encouraging sign we’ve seen thus far is the hot strike offence from Slutsk.

That wasn’t in their arsenal last season, but there has been evidence of a different season playing out. They recently scored 3 goals on a really good Isloch defence, and put up 3 goals against Slavia to open the Premier League schedule. In three out of their previous five matches overall, Slutsk has netted at least 3 goals.

The only club that slowed them down is Dinamo Brest recently. Dinamo Brest can do that against just about anybody in the Belarusian Premier League, so that may be nothing to be concerned about. They’ve averaged 2 goals per game on the season. Conceding 1.33 goals per match could be cleaned up, but if they hold steady with those numbers, Slutsk are likely threatening for a spot in the playoffs.

Vitebsk were getting hammered defensively in club friendlies in 2020, having conceded 2.12 goals per match. They’ve settled down for 0.67 goals against in the Premier League, though expect that number to see an uptick when they face better offences. I think we should see a 2-1 final score in this one. 1-1 at worst would be a push, so there is some value on the OVER.
