Sheffield United vs. Leicester City Pick – EPL Gameweek 3 – Aug. 24

The Premier League weekly picks at The Sports Geek have been quite profitable for us through the opening weeks, and we’ll continue into the Saturday slate with some prime betting opportunities.

Kicking off the 10AM EST slot will be Sheffield United as their rabid fanbase will host Leicester City. Sheffield is running hot at the moment, having won their first Premier League match in a generation last week vs. Crystal Palace. They’re an undefeated side and their is a ton of optimism within the squad.

That said, Leicester City are still recent champions and are an established EPL side with loads of skill, talent, and experience. Headed by Brendan Rodgers, the Foxes enter this match encouraged by last week’s outing at Chelsea – and are also undefeated with two draws thus far on the season.

In a battle of sides without a loss, we anticipate seeing one on Saturday in a game that should be quite the thrilling affair, with chances at both goals. Keep reading on below for our betting prediction and tactical analysis for the Blades vs. Foxes on Saturday morning.

Sheffield United vs. Leicester City Pick:

Though the totals market would anticipate a low-scoring affair devoid of many opportunities at goal, I expect to see the opposite at Bramall Lane for Sheffield and Leicester. Both sides love to push forward and have capable players of putting the ball in the net across the pitch.

Leicester in particular have to be encouraged by their most recent outing last week vs. Chelsea. They controlled the second half at Stamford Bridge and virtually silenced the supporting fans of Chelsea. Though the match finished in a 1-1 draw, they decisively won the expected goals battle, and really deserved the full three points. Both James Maddison and Jamie Vardy seem to be in great form at the moment, and that attacking duo should really trouble a still untested Sheffield back-line.

Sheffield do feel good about themselves entering match three of their Premier League return, but it isn’t going to last long. They’ve had relatively easy fixtures to begin their season, and Leicester City will represent a huge step-up in quality the Blades just aren’t ready for yet. Sheffield are also battling with a key injury at the moment as key midfielder John Fleck will be out with a hamstring injury.

Given that hole in the midfield expect Leicester to control much of the ball and tempo for this match. They possess great squad balance throughout, and can count on Wilfred Ndidi to win balls, while both Ayoze Perez and Maddison should be able to have their way with an inexperienced Sheffield side. Up front Vardy is just too fast for anyone within the Sheffield defense to handle, so expect him to find the back of the net.

Beating Sheffield at home won’t be an easy feat in 2019-20, but Leicester City have the quality to go in and do it. After drawing both matches to start their year, there is urgency for the Foxes to secure a victory if they do want to crack into the top-six of the table. Expect Leicester to carry on where they left off last week in the second half vs. Chelsea and simply overwhelm Sheffield United with their skill and quality within the midfield. A 2-0 or 2-1 scoreline for Leicester seems fitting, and it should be particularly routine for the battle-tested Foxes.
