Slavia Mozyr vs. BATE Borisov Pick – Belarusian Premier League March 28, 2020

BATE Borisov aren’t too familiar with what it’s like to be looking up in the standings. They’re a club that won the finals a record 13 times consecutive and a total of 15 titles. BATE have won three Belarusian Cups and four Belarusian Super Cups. The Barysaw based outfit didn’t look like the team I just described in their first match of the Belarsuain Premier League. They were upset by a scrappy Energetyk-BGU team who might be better than originally advertised.

Energetyk-BGU are off to a two-match winning streak after they defeated Ruh Brest on Friday. That was a winning pick for us, so no complaints from their performance on Friday. Ruh Brest isn’t BATE, though. We’re going to find out if the performance by BATE was a blip on the radar today.

If they come out strong and topple Slavia Mozyr, I’m going to feel pretty confident that BATE just didn’t have their heads focused last week. That would mean that the rest of the Belarusian Premier League can’t ignore BATE. Despite failing to win the finals last season, they still had another rock solid year with a record of 22-4-4 and 70 points. BATE finished 5 points behind the champions, Dinamo Brest.

So it’s not like they had a bad season. Though, somebody else rose up and decided enough was enough with BATE steamrolling everyone in the Premier League. There were two games on the schedule Friday, with four scheduled for Saturday. FC Slutsk and Dinamo Brest will get the day started, and FC Gorodeya and Shakhter Soligorsk will conclude the day.

Slavia Mozyr and BATE will get their match started at 8:00 a.m. EST. You would have thought I was nuts if I said that Slavia Mozyr and BATE was going to be the biggest game on the calendar in the sports world on March 28, but that’s the point we’re at now. It doesn’t make a difference to me as long as I’m finding winning selections.

At the end of the day that’s the whole point of sports betting, though I am getting a little antsy for the NHL. This was supposed to be the first weekend of MLB, but the start day for baseball is TBD. MLB has the best chance of getting a shortened season in. We might also see the NFL season postponed by a month at this rate. In any event, the Belarusian Premier League is still going strong. Head below for our free Slavia Mozyr vs. BATE pick for March 28, 2020.

Slavia Mozyr vs. BATE Borisov Betting Odds:

  • Slavia Mozyr +1, +1.5 (-108)
  • BATE -1, -1.5 (-112)

  • Slavia Mozyr (+679)
  • BATE (-257)
  • Draw (+361)
Total Points:

  • Over 2.5, 3 (-105)
  • Under 2.5, 3 (-115)

Slavia Mozyr vs. BATE Borisov Prediction:

BATE lost their season opener by a score of 3-1 last weekend. They won the time of possession with 66% as opposed to 34% for Energetyk. The shots were even, but the final score was not the same, with BATE suffering their first loss since February 20 against Zhetysu in a Cup series game. They were on a four-match winning streak between friendlies and Cup matches going into last weekend. It was a bad time for BATE to slow down, as they headed into their Premier League schedule. Good teams know how to respond after a poor showing, though, and BATE is certainly still a good team.

Slavia were a very average team in 2019 in the Premier League, as they finished with a record of 10-7-13 and 37 points. While BATE had a goal differential of +40 in 2019, Slavia were struggling with a -5 goal differential. Slavia opened the 2020 Premier League with a 3-1 loss versus Slutsk. They were able to put only 2 shots on target, while Slutsk hit the net a total of 6 times with 3 balls finding the back of the net. Their most recent against BATE resulted in a big loss. Slavia fell by a score of 4-0 in a dominant performance by BATE.

It’s been a difficult time for them to generate success against the powerhouse of Belarusian football. In their latest meeting on August 25, BATE scored 3 goals within 20 minutes to take a 4-0 lead and put the contest away. Dating back to three meetings ago, BATE has won each game by a combined tally of 7-1. I don’t believe we’re going to see another 4-0 final in favor of BATE, but they should be able to control the match. They were not focused last week, but it could have been an early wake up call for them. It’s better to happen now than later in the year. Expect BATE to resemble their usual selves on Saturday with a win over Slavia Mozyr. It’s an expensive price, but I think they should be in the -350 range to win.
