Southampton vs. Arsenal Pick – EPL June 25

Following a 2-0 day betting the EPL on Wednesday, we’ll end off the current matchday looking for more profits with another double-header of action. Yesterday, big favourites came through for us, with Man United and Liverpool both cruising to comfortable wins.

In our first featured clash of the day, Southampton will take on a struggling Arsenal side. The Saints enter Thursday’s showdown a revamped side coming out of the break, after easily disposing of Norwich City by a 3-nil scoreline. To be fair, Southampton have been rejuvenated ever since Ralph Hasenhuttl took over the side. This is a group that has improved their organization, while not losing any of their attacking flair. They sit 14th at the moment, but are comfortable from relegation and enjoying their newfound success.

A team that is not enjoying much success right now is Arsenal. Though optimism was sky high coming out of the pause, it has not materialized to on-field results for Mikael Artetat’s group. The Gunners have lost two straight contests, both in embarrassing fashion – and now have their work cut out for them to even qualify for the Europa League. They need to be better, and that’s been the message from training in the lead-up to this contest.

Keep reading on beneath the posted odds for further match analysis, team news, and a betting preview for Southampton vs. Arsenal. Though this clash doesn’t have too much weight in terms of positioning for Europe, or a relegation battle – both clubs are proud and will want to head into the off-season on a high note. This should be an entertaining affair, so continue on for today’s betting selection.

Southampton vs. Arsenal Pick:

Expect this match to take on a very free-flowing feel to it. Without crucial points to be gathered, expect both coaches to somewhat open things up, and hope that their skilled offensive talents can seize control of the game. Yes, we’ve seen the Premier League be uncharacteristically low-scoring since the restart, but this is one game where I think goals are on the horizon.

For the Saints, look for them to return to their 4-4-2 formation. The talented Ryan Bertrand will assume his role as left-back, but should be a key cog in generating chances from that flank. His pace and crossing ability has been a boost to Southampton’s offense lately, and he’ll be a handful to deal with for the Gunners.

GOLDEN BOOT INGS
Up front, Southampton will continue to drive their offense through the cerebral James Ward-Prowse in the midfield. His clinical passing and vision has sprung striker Danny Ings many times this season. And with the form the Arsenal defense is currently in, there should be chances for this skilled Saints side. Ings is also still in the running for the EPL’s Golden Boot, so he’s one to watch down the stretch. Look for him to add to his tally on Thursday.

For Arsenal, it seems as if injuries are starting to take a toll as the group has not responded well to have three matches in quick succession. They’re especially vulnerable at the back, where David Luiz, Calum Chambers, and Cedric Soares are all ruled out. First-team keeper Bernard Leno will also miss out due to injury. It’s a wounded club, but still one with depth that manager Mikael Arteta can draw from.

Despite issues at the back, Arsenal still possess a pretty scary attack going forward. Look for Mesut Ozil to finally return to the centre of midfield, and his passing ability should be huge for the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Alexandre Lacazette. Those strikers will all prove too much to handle for Southampton’s defense, and frankly it is tough to envision either side keeping a clean sheet in this contest.

Expect either team’s strikers to just torment the defenders on a night like this. Without big-time stakes, this should be a relatively open encounter, with offensive chances taking priority. A scoring draw seems likely, but the over 2.5 is our best bet for Southampton vs. Arsenal.
