Liverpool is nineteen points ahead of Manchester City. Klopp’s side is yet to lose a match this season, winning twenty-three matches and drawing one (against their biggest rivals, Manchester United). That said, is Pep’s teams still in the title race, or can we all just agree Liverpool is the winner?
Well, even if you think the title race is still going strong, there’s one angry Portuguese that’ll give his everything for a proper win. Mourinho is the name, and let’s just say he desperately needs three points on Sunday!

With that out of our way, let’s start off with Mourinho’s north London destination – Tottenham Spurs!
Mourinho Needs a Win Against Pep
At the moment, Tottenham is in the sixth position which doesn’t lead to European competitions next season. Luckily, they have thirty-four points, just like Manchester United on the fifth and Wolves on the seventh. Manchester United is going up against Wolves today, which means Tottenham is in a great position to secure the sixth spot.
On top of that, Mourinho desperately needs some points. His side won just five points in the last five matches. Son and the crew aren’t exactly in the best of form, and with Eriksen departing for Inter, everything seems to be going awful for the Portuguese strategist.
Who should be pointed out as the key player in Tottenham’s 2019/2020 season? I am not sure! At first glance, I’d say Harry Kane, but he won’t play on Sunday so he doesn’t make sense. Son has been playing great, showing off impressive consistency, but the same things can be said about Dele. They weren’t always the best men on the pitch, but they were at least somewhat consistent and made a few brilliant moves in Spurs’ overly bleak 2019/2020 campaign.
As stated earlier, one of Spurs’ key players has just departed for Italy and will definitely be missed. Of course, I’m talking about Christian Eriksen, who’s been a steady starter for Spurs ever since his arrival in 2013. Talking about absentees, Kane, Davies, and Sissoko are still out of the picture due to injuries.
Steven Bergwijn, Spurs’ newest arrival, is set to make a debut appearance on Sunday. Without Kane’s nose for goal, Spurs have been struggling… bringing forth the question – can the 22-year-old Dutchman bring the goals Spurs desperately crave for?
There’s been plenty of talks about Mourinho’s tactics at Tottenham. The 56-year-old manager is considered a Premier League managerial legend, but his two-month spell in North London has been nothing but a proper catastrophe.
Everything culminated last week when Tottenhman players expressed their feelings towards Mourinho’s tactics. Among other things, they called it outdated and expressed that they feel held back by their manager’s decisions and gameplay philosophy.
Long balls, counter-attacks, and the dreaded bus parking simulator are Mourinho’s key characteristics. But, not all teams can play that way and be successful. Manchester United should’ve served as the prime example. If Mourinho doesn’t get a sudden epiphany by Sunday, I’m afraid Pep Guardiola will break his team down with surgical precision.
Is Manchester City Still in the Race?
Yep, this is the million-dollar question, and the answer greatly varies depending on who you ask. If you ask the Scousers, they’ll tell you the title is theirs with a big smile on their face. If you ask the blue side of Manchester, you’ll get a lesson on never giving up and believing everything is possible, probably with a few mentions of last year’s comeback.
However, the sad reality is – if Manchester City doesn’t get three points in London on Sunday, they might as well call it quits. Liverpool’s domination is absurd and, realistically speaking, it’s only a matter of time before they get the crown.
Despite all that, you can bet Pep’s men will bring their A-game on Sunday especially if Southampton messes up Klopp’s plan for another festive weekend in Merseyside. Manchester City is on a good roll too, winning thirteen points in the last five matches.
Manchester City is packed with some of the hottest talents in the world; everybody knows that. They got Aguero with sixteen Premier League goals thus far. Jesus is on nine, Sterling on eleven and Mahrez on seven. The Algerian forward, however, also has nine assists to his tally, as well as four additional assists in the Champions League.
While we’re talking about assists, we need to mention Kevin De Bruyne, arguably the most complete player in the Premier League at the moment. The Belgian midfield maestro has fifteen assists to his tally, which is 0.625 assists per game. Obviously, he’s the best Premier League assistant thus far, and I really can’t see anyone beating him this season.
On the defensive end, City’s back four has been pretty solid. True, they struggled in key matches, which put Pep’s team out of balance at one point, but they seem to be on the right track now.
Even though they managed to reach the Carabao Cup final, Manchester City’s performance against United wasn’t particularly impressive. There was even criticism regarding Pep’s tactics after the game had ended. The front-runner was former Manchester City defender, Micah Richards, criticizing not just Pep Guardiola’s tactics but his choice of players too.
Honestly, I wouldn’t judge Pep’s tactical approach with Manchester City based on their Carabao Cup encounter with Ole’s United. Pep’s squad did what was required of them – advance to the third straight Carabao Cup final at Wembley. Plus, they had two goals ruled out for offside, as well as a majestic miss by Sterling.
All in all, we can expect Pep Guardiola to use a completely different tactical approach against Mourinho’s Spurs! That’s something our Tottenham vs. Manchester City betting predictions will take into account!
Tottenham vs. Manchester City Betting Predictions
For starters, this isn’t going to be a goal-fest! Even though Mourinho desperately needs a win to keep his job at least for another week, I can still see him deploying the bus from very early on. God forbid he scores a fast goal – we’d watch Spurs play with seven players in the defensive line.
Pep’s City won’t be charging in either. Pep’s fully aware the title race is over if he makes just one more mistake. We’re aware of it too, which is why we’ll go with a simple total goals under 2.5 at +160. In my books, that’s the optimal bet you can go with here.
If you’re feeling crispy, feel free to bet on Manchester City to win 2:0 at +750. Yep, that’s one of those high-risk high-reward bets, so keep it low stake!
