Atalanta seek to continue their strong form on Sunday against Udinese on the road. They were incredibly impressive at home on Wednesday, as they bounced visiting Lazio by a score of 3-2. Lazio are in dogfight with Juventus for the top spot in Serie A, so they did Juve a huge favour with the solid effort.
Atalanta deserved the victory, and it would have been a tough draw if they only got a point out of it. They had 21 shots including 9 on target, compared to 6 total shots and 3 on target for Lazio. Atalanta also won the time of possession battle at 57%. There was constant pressure by Atalanta and they were rewarded for it with 11 corners. Lazio were unable to get one corner throughout the entire match.
It was only the third loss of the season for Lazio. They slipped to 20-5-3, while Atalanta advanced to 16-6-5 and 54 points. It’s highly unlikely anybody is catching up to Lazio or Juventus, though. Inter Milan has the best chance of catching up, but it’d have to take a collapse and a lot of help elsewhere for that to occur. For Atalanta, they’re 4 points behind Inter Milan going into Sunday.
Inter Milan are in action versus Parma today. That’s a winnable match for Inter Milan, though not an automatic victory. A draw isn’t out of the question in that one. The biggest problem for Atalanta going into Sunday might be avoiding a letdown spot. With a win over Lazio just recorded into the books on Wednesday, there has to be concern for a letdown against Udinese.
Udinese are on the heels of a 1-0 loss against Torino on Tuesday. That was their first match since the Serie A shutdown. It wasn’t the final score they were looking for, but they did play Torino tough. In fact, Udinese had more total shots, shots on targets, and time of possession. They just couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities, which has become a recurring problem for them in the Serie A 2019-20 campaign. Head below for our free Udinese vs. Atalanta pick for June 28, 2020 in Serie A.
Udinese vs. Atalanta Serie A Betting Odds:
Udinese vs. Atalanta Prediction:
The success of Udinese today will be dependent on what Atalanta club we see on Sunday. If Atalanta come out with the same effort as they did against Lazio, then this match is going to be much of a game. Atalanta would be able to stomp on Udinese. Udinese owns a record of 7-7-13 and 28 points for 15th in Serie A. They will likely avoid relegation, but can’t relax. If they take their eyes away from the rest of their fixtures, then it could get interesting for Udinese at the end of the season.
While Udinese has played only one game so far since the lockdown, Atalanta have already played two matches. Both resulted in wins, with Atalanta in impressive form in both matches. Atalanta defeated Sassuolo by a score of 4-1 last Sunday, and then followed it up with a 3-2 win over second ranked Lazio. They were the better club in both matches and were deserving of all 6 points that came their way. Atalanta were hot even before the league lockdown.
They have now won seven straight fixtures, and haven’t suffered a loss since January 20 against SPAL. Their offence is one of the most dangerous in the league, with 2.85 goals scored per match. They’ve been better on the road as well, with 2.85 goals scored and 1.15 goals conceded. Udinese will have to find offence from somewhere today.
Udinese are one of the worst offensive clubs in Serie A. They have netted just 0.78 goals per match, with just 0.77 goals per match at home. Homefield advantage hasn’t been much of an advantage for Udinese, and they welcome a Atalanta club who have excelled as visitors this season. Udinese are going to look for a 1-0 win or 1-1 draw here.
That’s likely the best-case scenario. Rodrigo De Paul will not be playing, so that’s a problem for an already struggling Udinese offence. Their defence can hold Atalanta down for a while, but expect the pressure to be too much. It’s hard to beat Atalanta without offence and Udinese doesn’t have much of it. I will back Atalanta for the win on Sunday.
