Verona vs. Atalanta Pick – Serie A July 18, 2020

La Liga has been decided for the 2019-20 campaign. Real Madrid continued their hot streak on Thursday, and have collected every point possible since returning to action. Meanwhile, frustrations mounted for Barcelona, as they came up short, 2-1, against Osasuna. I don’t know if Barcelona were scoreboard watching, but it sure felt like it.

Real Madrid were up 2-0 on Villarreal when it looked like Barcelona packed things in. All Real Madrid needed was a win to guarantee the La Liga title. The Serie A title has yet to be settled this season. There are five more matches for Juventus to close things out. They are currently clear of Inter Milan by 6 points. What happened to Lazio?

Who knows what happened to Lazio, but they don’t look interested. After Juventus lost the Coppa Italia. The consensus seemed to be in Italy that Juventus are too old and will fall to Lazio. Yeah, about that. Lazio have fallen to fourth in Serie A, with Atalanta and Inter Milan both passing them on the table.

Atalanta have been scoring at a rapid pace. They are going to be a joy to watch in the Champions League and might play spoiler. Atalanta has a quarterfinal match scheduled for August 8 against Paris. As an overall club, Atalanta probably aren’t deep enough to upset and win the Champions League. There are holes on their defence that can be exploited by a good club.

That said, Atalanta have a quick strike offence that can cause some concern for an opponent. They are one of the most entertaining clubs to watch in Europe. Atalanta are coming off a 6-2 blowout over Brescia on July 14. This was after a 2-2 draw versus Juve. Instead of having a hangover after that match, Atalanta were on fire. Mario Paspalic led the pack with 2 goals just three minutes apart at the 55th and 58th minute.

Verona dropped a 2-1 decision against Roma on Wednesday. Roma kept the pressure on often, with a total of 19 shots put towards the Verona net. That will have to be cleaned up significantly or Atalanta is going to have another goal fest on Saturday. Verona are ninth in Serie A with a record of 11-11-11 and 44 points. Average doesn’t go very far in Serie A, though they are capable of an upset. Head below for our free Verona vs. Atalanta pick for July 18, 2020 in Serie A.

Verona vs. Atalanta Serie A Betting Odds:

  • Verona +1, +1.5 (-103)
  • Atalanta -1, -1.5 (-117)

  • Verona (+580)
  • Atalanta (-224)
  • Draw (+370)
Total Points:

  • Over 3, 3.5 (-115)
  • Under 3, 3.5 (-105)

Verona vs. Atalanta Prediction:

If Verona goes into today with the same attitude as they did against the Roma then just forget about it. Atalanta will stomp all over Verona for 90+ minutes. Verona conceded 19 shots with 4 hitting the net. You can bet that if Atalanta has 19 opportunities at the net, they’re going to find more than 4 shots on target.

Atalanta are first in Serie A with 2.82 goals scored per match. Juventus is averaging 2.12 goals per match, so that goes to show you how good Atalanta has been offensively. Going on the road hasn’t bothered them that much either. Atalanta has netted 2.69 goals per match as a visitor. They’ve been average defensively this season, with 1.41 goals conceded per match. That has been about the only thing holding Atalanta back from winning the Serie A title.

Since returning to play, Atalanta has scored at least 2 goals in seven of eight matches. In those eight matches, they’ve recorded an average of 2.88 goals per match. In five out of eight, Atalanta have put at least 3 balls into the back of the net. After their 6-goal explosion against Brescia, it’s hard to expect Verona offering much resistance Saturday.

The Verona offence has been playing well since returning after the layoff. They have scored at least 2 goals in four of eight matches, with an average of 1.5 goals. That equals their 2019-20 mark at home. Verona may very well find a goal or two in this match, but I don’t see how they stop Atalanta from scoring. Atalanta continue to pressure and attack without any signs of slowing down. A scoreline of 3-2 or 3-1 in favour of Atalanta looks accurate on Saturday.
