There aren’t many perfect teams remaining in the English Premier League, but two of them will square off on Sunday afternoon as Watford hosts Tottenham.
Tottenham being a perfect 3-0 isn’t surprising to anybody – they’re a great team. But the manner in which they’ve been winning has been downright impressive. Last week they trotted into Old Trafford and easily disposed of Manchester United. The Spurs are rolling in attack and despite not making any transfers in the off-season, they are primed to challenge for the title.
For Watford, never before have they started a campaign in the top flight three-for-three in terms of victories. Last week, they weren’t necessarily the better side vs. Crystal Palace – but they found a way to win with opportunistic goal-scoring and a solid team approach. Javi Gracia has his squad firing right now, and despite being a popular pick for relegation – Watford’s start has many thinking they could be capable of much more.
This should be a pretty big match between two nearby rival clubs. Something has to give this week as both teams can’t win, so read on below the odds for a detailed match preview and an official betting prediction.

Watford vs. Tottenham Hotspur Pick:
One of the strengths of Watford’s side at the moment has to be the consistency. The starting eleven are all familiar with one another right now, and they’ll be very difficult to break down at Vicarage Road.
Watford has been also doing this on the backs of solid defensive play – something they will definitely need against Tottenham. Through their first three games, Watford have only allowed two goals, and only 7.7 shots per game. That’s currently good for second in the entire Premier League, and though it’s a small sample size – Watford are getting immediate results and have been quite difficult to break down.
That said, questions are still being asked of them in terms of the quality of team they have beaten and with regard to their offense. They’ve been opportunistic, but against a team like Tottenham those chances can certainly dry up quickly. The Spurs should be able to control the ball for much of this match and ultimately dominate much of the possession. If Tottenham maintains focus and aren’t too content with themselves after thrashing Man United, this match can be theirs.
The Spurs will look to take the match to Watford, throwing all kinds of pressure at them to try and break down their stout defensive system. While that may make them vulnerable elsewhere, specifically on the counter – the onslaught the Spurs can throw at the Hornets will eventually break them down. Watford has yet to face an attack as versatile as Tottenham’s, and look for the Spurs to really activate the fullbacks on Sunday. Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier are excellent attacking fullbacks and look for them to be very attack-minded against Watford.
Expect a cagey start at a raucous Vicarage Road on Sunday. Watford has their supporters in a frenzy surely, though it likely comes to a screeching halt with the Spurs visit. Tottenham is in excellent form right now, and their offensive attack of Harry Kane and Lucas Moura should be able to break down a tight defensive approach from Watford. Look for the Spurs to stay perfect.
PICK = Tottenham (-165)
