Wolves vs. Burnley EPL Pick – Gameweek 3 – Aug. 25th

Gameweek Three of the Premier League season will wrap-up with a thrilling affair from Wolverhampton as the Wolves welcome an upstart Burnley side. Both of these teams entered their campaigns with high hopes for a top-half of the table finish, but in reality – there’s likely only room for one of them.

Burnley have started well this season. They fared well last week in a narrow loss at Arsenal, but are just two weeks removed from thrashing Southampton at home. They are a group that can and will score, and under Sean Dyche they remain solid at the back. Burnley will be a big test for a road-weary Wolves side.

The Wolves return from Italy to do battle with Burnley. Mid-week they secured a thrilling result against Torino, showing off their high-octane attack in a 3-2 finish in the Europa League. It is often said that playing in European competitions during the middle of the week can take quite the toll on teams, but given the early nature of the season, the Wolves team should be fine for Sunday’s clash.

With the aspirations of both Wolves and Burnley being quite high heading into this campaign, you can bet this is a match both teams will prioritize. And with the attacking disposition of both sides, Sunday’s weekly finale should produce some fireworks. Read on below the odds as we look to end off the week with yet another winner. Enjoy the match!

Wolves vs. Burnley Pick:

Though the Wolves have opened their season with two straight draws, nobody is panicking within that camp. It’s been two tough fixtures for them, and they have to feel good about their current form. Still, for a side with high hopes – they realize the onus needs to be on securing a full three points at home against Burnley.

For Burnley, they too have to be pleased with their start. Key striker Ashley Barnes enters this match in superb form, and should be counted upon to again find the net in this fixture. Don’t expect too many changes to the squad for Sean Dyche’s side. They’re playing well and showing good chemistry, and Burnley’s depth really falls off after their first eleven.

Expect Nuno Santo to rotate some of his group to accommodate for the mid-week clash. The group has enough depth to cope, but they should be strong in terms of their lineup vs. Burnley. Up front, Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota form an impressive partnership and should be able to really test a usually stingy Burnley defense.

As the Wolves showed last week, they have another gear that can allow them to play with the top clubs. Last Monday, they went toe-to-toe with a rapid Manchester United group and probably deserved a full three points. They’re relentless in the midfield and though there is still room to be more assertive in the final third, they have the power and skill to overwhelm Burnley, specifically in the midfield.

While many see the Clarets being able to pounce on a tired and road-weary Wolves’ squad, that won’t be the case, especially with Wolves playing in front of their home fans. This is a deeper group and one with way more quality than Burnley. The mid-week match effect is overstated, and I see the Wolves being able to squeak out a victory given all of the game-breakers they have in their side. Back the Wolves in a close 1-nil victory.
