The Halle Open rolls into the weekend with four players left in the tournament. There are two semifinal matches at Halle, with Daniil Medvedev and Oscar Otte meeting. Then a little later, Hubert Hurkacz and Nick Kyrgios will decide the matchup for the Halle Open final round.
Medvedev is the clear favorite after winning in straight sets to reach the semifinal. He hasn’t lost a set, with only one needing a tiebreaker against Ilya Ivashka in the quarterfinal. Despite being unable to play at Wimbledon, Medvedev is strong and playing some of his best tennis on the grass.
While he will not be able to go to London for Wimbledon this summer, Medvedev will be welcomed back to the US Open.
Medvedev is the defending US Open title holder and will have a chance to repeat now. He has appeared to take the news well because Medvedev seems to be on a mission at the moment. It’s probably best for the rest of the ATP Tour that Medvedev is barred from Wimbledon.
You aren’t going to find that price this far into the Halle Open. I bet this future before the tournament began in Germany.
Otte reached the semifinal in the Stuttgart Open and gave Matteo Berrettini a pretty good match in a 7-6, 7-6 loss.
He’s kept his form in the Halle Open with three wins going into the semifinal. Medvedev is his biggest challenge yet.

Daniil Medvedev vs. Oscar Otte Prediction:
Oscar Otte is currently playing some of the better tennis in his career. He couldn’t get past Matteo Berrettini, but Otte pressed him with his service game. Otte was just unable to disrupt Berrettini’s service.

Otte is coming off a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 win over Karen Khachanov. He is unseeded against the No. 7 Khachanov, so that’s a small upset. It was a three-set win for Otte in an earlier set against Nikoloz Basilashvili.
If Otte plans on getting to the final round of the Halle Open, he will need to be in better shape against Medvedev. While Otte is playing quality tennis, it may not be enough versus a Medvedev in this form.
Medvedev has won all six sets in the Halle Open. He’s gone 6-3, 6-2, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4. Bautista Agut is not a weak opponent, but Medvedev made the No. 20 in the world look unprepared.
He suffered a shocking upset in the Netherlands this past weekend, but it looks like he is well-prepared and motivated to prevent the same at the Halle Open.
Medvedev advanced to 6-1 on the turf this year and 13-3 over the previous two years. He can’t play Wimbledon, but he’s looked the best we’ve seen from him on the grass.
This is his to lose. He’s playing motivated and likely doesn’t stop against Otte. They’ve never played head-to-head, and Otte should be in for a rude awakening in Germany this afternoon.
Expect Otte to make things interesting for a minute with his service game. However, expect Medvedev to be too tough and wear Otte out in the second set. I’m on Medvedev in a 6-4, 6-3 semifinal match at Halle.
