Hubert Hurkacz vs. Carlos Alcaraz Pick – ATP Miami Open April 1, 2022

The ATP Miami Open is winding down at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida. The tournament is down to three players, with Casper Ruud winning earlier in the day against Francisco Cerundolo. Ruud won in straight sets to end an improbable run for Cerundolo.

Ruud is off to the Miami Open Finals to meet either Hubert Hurkacz or Carlos Alcaraz. These are two players that should provide a more entertaining matchup than the Ruud-Cerundolo match. Alcaraz is only 18 years old and a rising star on the tennis court.

Is he ready to win the Miami Open, though? This would be a pretty big accomplishment for the youngster.

He’s been in good form this tournament and has only lost one set. His Miami Open run includes wins over No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Following a 6-4, 6-4 win over Tsitsipas, Alcaraz advanced to the quarterfinal for a gritty win over Serb, Miomir Kecmanovic, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. Alcaraz committed three double faults to keep the unraked Kecmanovic in the match.

The 18-year-old is already up to No. 16 in the ATP rankings and can fly up even further with a Miami Open win. He’s certainly one to watch over the next several years. A Grand Slam doesn’t seem that out of reach.

A formidable opponent stands in front of Alcaraz at Hard Rock Stadium tonight. Hurkacz is the higher-ranked player in the Miami Open. He’s No. 8 against No. 14 Alcaraz, though the underdog going into the semifinal.

There has to be a slight feeling of disrespect to Hurkacz, who is playing well, too. Hurkacz has lost just one set in the Miami Open as well. He is coming off an upset over Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3.

Hubert Hurkacz vs. Carlos Alcaraz Prediction:

Both players are in top form at the moment. Carlos Alcaraz has a really bright future ahead, though.

He’s only 18 and already beating and competing with the best players in the world. Alcaraz has five wins in his previous eight attempts against top-10 players.

In one of his touches matches, he took Rafael Nadal to three sets in the Indian Wells. The two Spaniards played tough, with the professor edging out the student in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 final on March 19.

It’s a learning experience for Alcaraz, who is expected to win matches consistently versus top opponents consistently very soon. He’s too good.

Having said that, he may be in tough versus 25-year-old Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole is ignored in the shadows of the hype of Alcaraz, but don’t discard him.

Hurkacz has the best win in this tournament with a straight-set win over Daniil Medvedev, 7-6, 6-3. He also had an impressive 6-4, 6-2 win over Andy Murray in the Round of 64.

This is an interesting match in Miami tonight. I see it being an entertaining showdown to decide who goes to the Miami Open Finals.

Neither side is likely to dominate in the current form of Hurkacz and Alcaraz. Both will battle hard in the semis. This should result in plenty of games to put this one OVER at Hard Rock Stadium.
