The Round of 16 continues at the Stuttgart Open on Thursday afternoon. The No. 2 seed in Germany handled his business yesterday. Matteo Berrettini needed three sets, but was in full control of Radu Albot.
Berrettini won and covered for us with a final score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. He is back after taking the French Open off. Berrettini could have forced a return from a hand injury, but played it safe and is using the Stuttgart Open as a warm-up for Wimbledon.
It’s a smart move by Berrettini to point to Wimbledom and ensure he’s fully healed. The grass court is his best surface, so it lines up with his strengths.
Berrettini is not the No. 1 seed and favorite to win the Stuttgart Open. That belongs to Stefanos Tsitsipas, who disappointingly crashed out of the French Open in his fourth match.
He’s already played two doubles matches in the Stuttgart Open, both wins with his brother, Petros. This was a nice couple of matches for him to forget about the French Open.
Tsitstipas will play his first singles match against Dominic Stephan Stricker. Stricker is looking for another upset after beating the No. 1 seed and No. 6 seed in the qualifying stage, and then opening with a
In his opening match in the Round of 32, Maxime Cressy was ousted in a close match that went down to the wire. Cressy fell by a final score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-7.

Stefanos Tsitstipas vs. Dominic Stephan Sticker Prediction:
Tsitsipas hasn’t played a singles match since a 5-7, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 loss to Holger Rune. He rolled over Mikael Ymer with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 win in three sets for an easy victory.
The win over Ymer was his only clinic at the French Open. Tsitsipas needed five sets to beat Lorenzo Musetti. That was probably a big red flag for what was coming down the road at Roland Garros.
There was a sense that Tsitsipas had everything together after he walked through Ymer. However, that was a false signal that trapped people into betting him against Rune.
Despite his roller coaster ride in France, Tsitsipas is 33-10 and 79-39 in sets this year. After some time to clear his mind after the loss at the French Open, expect Tsitsipas to be in better shape.
Stricker is the No. 200 player in the world. After three wins in Germany, he feels confident, but Stricker was losing against some bad players before the Stuttgart Open.
He lost to the No. 212, 201, 332, 327, 141, and 199 players since March. Stricker beat the No. 496 and 361 players worldwide before this tournament in his wins.
Cressy is a big win for Stricker. He’s the No. 67 player on the ATP Tour, so that’s a marquee victory for him. Tsitsipas will be much tougher, and Stricker may be complacent following the win over Cressy. I like a five-game win for Tsitsipas in his singles opener at the Stuttgart Open.
