- The Edmonton Oilers were in deep trouble against the Florida Panthers, going down 3-0 in Game 4 while trailing 2-1 in the Stanley Cup finals.
- The Oilers stormed back in an up-and-down game, and Leon Draisaitl scored 11:18 into overtime to win 5-4 to tie the series.
- Draisaitl set an NHL record with his fourth overtime goal of the playoffs, and the Oilers are the first road team to win after a three-goal deficit in a finals game since 1919.
The Edmonton Oilers had their backs against the wall in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals. On the road in Florida, the Oilers were down 3-0 at the end of the first period and were on the cusp of going down 3-1 in the series against the Panthers.
But a goaltender change sparked the Oilers, who took the lead before allowing a late game-tying goal. Still, Leon Draisaitl scored 11:18 into overtime to give the Oilers a 5-4 win and a 2-2 tie in the series. Draisaitl and the Oilers made some NHL history in the process.
Draisaitl, Oilers Make History in Rollercoaster Stanley Cup Finals Game
The Oilers were down 3-0 at the end of the first period, and head coach Kris Knoblauch made another goalie change, not for the first time in the series. Knoblauch replaced Stuart Skinner with Calvin Pickard, and the Oilers scored three goals in the second period to tie the game.
Both teams then scored in the third period, including a Sam Reinhart goal for Florida with 20 seconds left to send it to overtime.
Then, Leon Draisaitl scored to power the Oilers to a massive 5-4 win to tie the series up at two games apiece. It was Draisaitl’s fourth overtime goal of the postseason, which is an NHL record. Draisaitl also set the record for overtime goals in the regular season in 2024-25, scoring six times in the extra period.
The German forward is also the third player to score two overtime goals in a single Stanley Cup final, joining Montreal’s John LeClair in 1993, and Don Raleigh of the New York Rangers in 1950. Draisaitl also notched the winner in Game 1’s 4-3 win.
The Oilers also made their own history. They’re the first team to be down three goals and rally for a win in the Stanley Cup finals since Montreal did it to Seattle, way back in 1919. Before this game, road teams were 1-158 when down three goals in a Stanley Cup game. We can make that 2-158 now!
What Are the Stanley Cup Odds Predicting?
The Stanley Cup odds have shifted once again after this crazy game. The Panthers had all the momentum and were priced at -260 after winning Game 3 in a dominant 6-1 performance. But now the series shifts back to Edmonton on Saturday night for a critical Game 5, and NHL betting sites have the Oilers anywhere from -117 to -120 to avenge last season’s Stanley Cup loss.
You can find the Oilers from -118 to -125 to win Game 5 on home ice. But the Panthers won’t be afraid to go to Edmonton, where they won Game 2 in a 5-4 double-overtime thriller. Florida is 9-3 on the road in this postseason, including a 6-1 thrashing of the Maple Leafs in Toronto in Game 7. This series is far from over, and there could be more twists and turns when it comes to the Stanley Cup odds!
