Giannis Avoids Major Injury, Out 2-4 Weeks; Does This Affect His Future?

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks suffered a non-contact injury, but avoided a major injury with a calf strain.
  • The two-time NBA MVP will be out for 2-4 weeks, as he attempts to sort out his future with the Bucks.
  • This injury hasn’t affected the odds of Antetokounmpo being traded, or what team he could move to.

Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks has suffered a calf strain and will be out at least 2-4 weeks. This comes after it was announced Antetokounmpo and his agent were speaking to the team about his future in Milwaukee.

Because it’s not a serious injury, this hasn’t impacted the odds of Antetokounmpo being traded, or what teams he could go to.

Non-Contact Injury Scares Antetokounmpo, But Disaster is Averted

The play happened during the first quarter of Milwaukee’s 117-111 win over Detroit on Wednesday.

Antetokounmpo managed to walk off the floor with the help of teammates, and many feared the worst, given the spate of Achilles injuries that have hit the NBA recently. But Milwaukee coach Doc Rivers claimed after the game that it wasn’t his Achilles, and an MRI on Thursday confirmed a calf strain.

Antetokounmpo will be out for at least 2-4 weeks, and he already missed four games this season due to a groin strain. Earlier in the day, it was revealed that Antetokounmpo and his agent had spoken to the Bucks about his future with the team. The Bucks are 10-13 after last night’s win, and both sides are weighing whether a trade is best for everyone.

Giannis Next Team Odds Stay Put

The Giannis next team odds haven’t moved with the announcement of the injury, and now that it’s not serious, they likely won’t move. The bookies have given equal odds to whether he’ll be traded. But if he is, San Antonio, New York, Houston, and Miami are the favorites to land the two-time MVP.

The market will be hot for Antetokounmpo ahead of the trade deadline on February 6, 2026, and a trade may happen well before then. This is different from the Mavericks trading Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers without putting him on the market. The Bucks will be eager to get as much as they can for Antetokounmpo, and a bidding war will almost certainly happen.

Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo has 2-4 weeks to contemplate his future with the Bucks. Teams will be lining up for the “Greek Freak”. We’ll keep you updated on what Antetokounmpo decides, whether it is staying in Milwaukee, or heading to a new destination!
