Ovechkin Enters Final Season of Contract with Capitals, Prepares for Career After Hockey

It was revealed on Tuesday that Ovechkin will team up with Yandex, from his home country of Russia, to produce something about his career.

It hasn’t been decided what it’ll be, a movie, television series, or a documentary. But Ovechkin has time to figure that out as he enters the final season of his contract with the Washington Capitals. “Ovi” has had a glittering career as he heads into his 21st campaign. Yandex has a streaming platform called Kinopoisk that it will likely air on.

He was drafted with the first overall pick by the Capitals in 2004, but didn’t play until 2005, due to a lockout in the NHL. Ovechkin has since become a legend in the game, breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894 goals. “The Great 8” now has 897 goals as he prepares for next season. Just because his contract is up, that doesn’t mean Ovechkin will retire soon!

What are the Odds of Another Stanley Cup for Ovechkin?

But Ovechkin still wants to have another run at a Stanley Cup! The Capitals won in 2018, and Ovechkin was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP, scoring 15 goals and adding 12 assists. Despite breaking Gretzky’s record, there is likely a bad taste in Ovechkin’s mouth. The Capitals were the top seed in the Eastern Conference and second in points overall. However, they lost to Carolina in the second round in five games.

BetUS has odds of +600 on Ovechkin winning another Cup before he retires, which might not be after this season. There are also odds at NHL betting sites on Ovechkin scoring 1,000 goals or more (including playoffs).

In short, there are plenty of betting options surrounding the greatest goal-scorer in NHL history. We’ll keep you updated on his progress, and the Capitals’ Stanley Cup odds, throughout the season. But you can also wait for the Ovechkin documentary when the curtain falls on his career!
