Saudi Teams Still Interested; Could Salah Leave Liverpool?

  • Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has suffered a dip in form recently, and was an unused substitute in their 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.
  • Saudi Arabian clubs have reignited their interest in the Egyptian forward, specifically Al-Hilal and Al-Qadsiah.
  • Could Liverpool look to cash in on Salah with one year left on his contract?

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is wanted by Saudi Arabian clubs after being left on the bench for a 2-0 win over West Ham.

With more than a year left on his contract, Salah speculation is ramping up again.

Liverpool Struggles, But Salah Issues Are Magnified

Two Saudi Arabian clubs are still interested in Salah, who is preparing to leave Liverpool for the African Cup of Nations to represent Egypt.

Liverpool’s title defense is likely over, as they are in eighth place ahead of Wednesday’s home match against Sunderland. They’re nine points behind leaders Arsenal. Liverpool defeated West Ham 2-0 on Sunday on the road, but the Reds have three wins and nine losses in their last 12 games. Many players in the squad have suffered a dip in form.

But the spotlight is on Salah, who signed a two-year deal in April 2025. The 33-year-old forward was the Premier League Player of the Season in 2024-2025, leading the league in goals (29) and assists (18) to lead Liverpool to the title. But this season, Salah has four goals and two assists. The West Ham game was just the second time Salah was an unused substitute for Liverpool in a Premier League game.

Reports state that Al-Hilal has picked up their interest again after trying to sign Salah in January 2025. Al-Qadsiah is also reportedly looking to throw their hat into the ring for Salah.

But will they be successful after failing to sign Salah in the past?

Could Salah Actually Leave Liverpool?

The West Ham game could be an outlier, as Liverpool played Sunday, and they play again today on Wednesday against Sunderland. Manager Arne Slot could be simply rotating players to keep them fresh. Some EPL predictions are picking Sunderland for the upset today; could Salah spark Liverpool to life?

But there is discussion around Salah’s position in the team, as he doesn’t track back as often, leaving Liverpool’s right backs exposed. Salah’s power is in his attacking prowess, but it does come at a cost.

Liverpool could look to cash in on the Egyptian forward, whose deal expires at the end of next season. If the offer were to come from a Saudi Arabian club, it would likely be a considerable deal. Liverpool would have to consider the move.

This could all be moot if Salah has a great AFCON tournament and finds his form for Liverpool when he returns. He leaves on December 15, so there isn’t much time before the tournament.

It’s definitely a situation worth keeping an eye on. Will Liverpool try to take advantage of any Saudi Arabian offers, or will they keep their greatest player? Liverpool fans will be anxious to find out!
