Trump Wins FIFA Peace Prize, But No Nobel Peace Prize

  • U.S. President Donald Trump won the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize.
  • He was presented the award at the FIFA World Cup draw.
  • Trump didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to Maria Corina Machado of Venezuela.

U.S. President Donald Trump was awarded the FIFA Peace Prize, the first of its kind, at the 2026 World Cup in Washington, D.C., on Friday.

Trump failed to win the Nobel Peace Prize, which may have played into this award.

Infantino Says Trump Should Have Won Nobel Peace Prize

The American president was given this award in the nation’s capital.

This is the inaugural edition of the award, and it isn’t known if there were other nominees. But FIFA President Gianni Infantino was happy to give the award to his “close friend”. Trump accepted the award and said:

“This is truly one of the great honors of my life. And beyond awards, we saved millions and millions of lives.”

On October 9, Infantino said on Instagram:

Much has been made of Trump’s relationship with Infantino, especially as the United States is a co-host of the 2026 World Cup, along with Canada and Mexico. Trump has said in the past that Infantino would move World Cup games to other cities if he deemed the chosen sites “unsafe”. Trump also recently hosted a dinner at the White House with Infantino, and Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was also in attendance.

But many are wondering if this award was just created for Trump because he didn’t win another award.

Was This Given to Trump in Lieu of Not Winning the Nobel Peace Prize?

Trump was the favorite in the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize odds in September, but he lost to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who will be awarded the honor on December 10. Machado is fighting for democratic rights in her country.

The American president has been controversial, to say the least. There are some who feel that Infantino created this award to keep his relationship with Trump smooth, although there is no way to know the answer.

The relationship between Trump and Infantino is bound to grow, however, as FIFA gets ready for the World Cup, which also held a draw on Friday to group the teams. This certainly won’t be the last you hear from the two.
