Nobel Peace Prize 2026 Betting Preview: Favorites, Odds, & Predictions

Yulia Navalnaya (+400)

The widow of former Russian politician and anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny is once again seen as a leading contender for the Nobel Peace Prize. She has frequently ranked among the favorites at online bookmakers and was one of 338 nominees for the 2025 award.

So far, however, Yulia Navalnaya has not managed to secure enough votes from the Nobel Peace Committee. Supporters are now asking whether this could finally be her year. Navalnaya’s work centers on carrying forward her late husband’s anti-corruption and pro-democracy campaign against the Kremlin.

Beyond her activism, Navalnaya has signaled that she intends to run for president of Russia if circumstances make a genuine election possible in the future.

Her political aim is to help build a free and democratic Russia. Currently in exile, she operates from an undisclosed location abroad due to the risk of retribution from President Vladimir Putin’s government.

She is also the current Chairwoman of the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) and the Advisory Board for the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK). Navalnaya recently discussed how she still hears Alexei’s voice and is encouraged to make it heard.

That being said, there doesn’t appear to be any value on Navalnaya’s odds to win the Nobel Peace Prize at +400. If she hasn’t won it the last few years when she was more involved in the media spotlight, I don’t have faith in her winning this year.

UNRWA (+500)

The UNRWA is once again considered a leading contender for the Nobel Peace Prize. Last year, the agency ranked among the top three favorites, and this spring it returned near the top of the betting boards for 2026.

However, after an initial wave of optimism about its chances, support faded in the betting markets. The organization was no longer seen as a serious contender by the time voting took place in Norway.

Founded in 1949, UNRWA is tasked with assisting Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. Its humanitarian work spans healthcare, food assistance, education, and broader emergency relief.

As a result of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, the UNRWA has been heavily involved in helping refugees. However, Israel and the Anti-Defamation League have accused the organization of employing members of Hamas and other terrorist groups.

Furthermore, the United States Congress filed a report in 2024 about wrongdoings. It goes as far as claiming that the UNRWA isn’t a refugee agency or intentional organization and presents a security threat to Israel and the United States. Senator Tom Cotton is also leading a push to have UNRWA lose access to UN funding.

Similar to last year, I expect the UNRWA’s Nobel Peace Prize 2026 odds to deteriorate and not be considered a favorite late in the summer.

Pope Leo XIV (+800)

Several popes have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, but none has ever won. Every pope since Benedict XV (1914-1922) has received at least one nomination. The Committee has never seemed eager to actually honor a pope, but Pope Francis, who died on April 21, 2025, probably came the closest.

I believe Pope Leo XIV has an even greater chance than Francis. One of the most progressive popes in recent memory, yet still broadly moderate, Leo XIV is likely to be under serious consideration. He has picked up where his predecessor left off and gone further, building a reputation as a progressive leader who subtly pushes against the Vatican’s historical grain.

Although the first American pope maintains the Catholic Church’s socially conservative teachings, Leo XIV has been outspoken in his support for migrants and refugees. He is also continuing to open more positions in the Vatican to women. Also, a champion of marginalized communities, he is exactly the kind of figure who should resonate strongly with the Nobel Committee in Norway.

Leo XIV has also been vocal about global conflicts. He condemned violence against protesters in Iran and has consistently opposed the broader conflict there. This stance drew the ire of President Trump and sparked a sharp response from the pope, who insisted he carries a message of peace and will not waver in denouncing war.

Trump’s frustration with the Nobel Committee has been well documented, especially after he failed to win the Peace Prize last year. If Leo XIV were to win in 2026, Trump’s outbursts would likely be intense and frequent. From a betting perspective, though, Leo XIV is worth a close look at +800 odds.
