- The Minnesota Timberwolves were eliminated by Oklahoma City in five games in the Western Conference Finals, including a 124-94 loss in the fifth game.
- Timberwolves’ star Anthony Edwards is one of the most exciting players in the game, and has been called “the next Michael Jordan” by some in the media.
- Social media had some fun at Edwards’ expense after the loss, but the future is still bright for the 23-year-old.
Anthony Edwards is one of the biggest up-and-coming stars in the NBA. Some would say that he’s already there.
“Ant-Man” showed he still has a way to go after the Timberwolves were eliminated in five games by Oklahoma City, and social media was all over a player some have called “the next Michael Jordan”. It’s all in good fun, and Edwards should come back next year, better than ever.
Social Media Has Fun With “Ant-Man”
Edwards is known to talk a lot of trash, which is why social media went off on Thursday night after the Thunder routed the Timberwolves 124-94 to send Minnesota home.
Here are some of the best memes from X following the Timberwolves’ loss.
Edwards had to know this was coming, being 23 years old and growing up on social media. After Michael Jordan was used as the “Crying MJ” meme, it was known that anyone could get ridiculed on social media.
What’s Next for Anthony Edwards?
However, you can expect to see Minnesota in the top half of the NBA championship odds for next season. As someone noted, Jordan suffered the same sort of loss in his fifth NBA season.
At 23, Edwards is one of the rising stars in the NBA. He made the All-NBA second team, his second time making that team. He is a three-time All-Star already, and Edwards made more three-pointers (320) than anyone in the league, shooting them at a 39.5% clip.
The Timberwolves also ran into a buzz saw in the Oklahoma City Thunder, who have been at, or near, the top of the NBA title odds all season long. The Thunder were happy to gang up on Edwards and let someone else from the Timberwolves beat them. After two excellent series, Julius Randle didn’t show up against the Thunder. The rest of the supporting cast had moments, notably in a Game 3 143-101 beatdown of the Thunder. But overall, Edwards didn’t get much help.
Finally, he’s 23 years old. We’re big fans of Anthony Edwards here, and this was all in good fun. But the future is still very bright for Edwards, the cornerstone of what Minnesota is building. The Michael Jordan comparisons are ridiculous; even the great LeBron James couldn’t get there, to many people.
But Edwards has said he wants to be known as the first Anthony Edwards, and that is still a terrific basketball player. “Ant-Man” will be fine, and we look forward to watching the rest of his career!
