  • LeBron James posted on social media on Monday that “the decision of all decisions” will be made on October 7 at 12 PM ET.
  • #TheSecondDecision is an allusion to his “Decision” to go to Miami in 2010, and some are speculating that James will announce his retirement after this season.
  • This post caused ticket prices to spike massively.

LeBron James posted that he would be making a #SecondDecision on October 7, an allusion to the 2010 “Decision” to go to Miami.

Some are speculating that James might announce his retirement following this upcoming season, which has caused some tickets to skyrocket.

James’ Potential Final Game Ticket Goes From $82 to $580

James posted this cryptic tweet on Monday, October 6:

As of Tuesday morning, this tweet has over 51 million views, just on X. That sparked speculation that James could retire after this season, which will be his 23rd in the NBA.

Ticket prices for the Los Angeles Lakers’ final home game on April 12, 2026, against the Utah Jazz have made a considerable increase over the last 12-18 hours. They started at a price of around $82, but have jumped to $580, and could go higher if James does indeed announce his retirement.

James made these comments last week during preseason media availability:

"It's pretty cool to know how many miles I've got and still be able to play at a high level. For me, age is kind of just a number, but it is reality, too. You look at the history of the game, there's not been many guys at my age, especially going into Year 23, that have been able to play at a level like that. I just try not to take it for granted and just try to give the game as much as I can, inspire whoever I can."

But will James, who made the All-NBA Second Team last season, actually retire?

Will LeBron James Actually Retire?

There are some that think James will simply announce a new business venture, which is completely possible. James is open about his desire to be a business mogul, and he’s succeeding in that anyway, along with basketball. Making a post like this proves his business acumen.

The Lakers’ NBA championship odds will certainly shift, one way or another, if James does indeed retire. There is the allure of going out on a high, as James is still playing very well at 40 (turning 41 on December 30). He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists last season. He also averaged 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 7.2 assists in a five-game loss to Minnesota in the first round.

James is still hungry for a fifth championship, and the Lakers have a full offseason of Luka Dončić, who looks to be in the best shape of his career. It would be somewhat of a surprise if James were to announce an impending retirement, but you never know. Nearing 41 years old, it’s definitely possible.

The basketball world is on pins and needles this morning waiting for this afternoon’s announcement. Could we see the end of “King” James?
