Could Manchester United Become a Part of Turki Al-Sheikh’s Sports Empire?

  • Saudi Arabia sports promoter Turki Al-Sheikh has stoked rumors of a Manchester United takeover with a social media post.
  • It is reported that Manchester United is worth close to $2.7 billion, but the current owners, the Glazers, are looking for almost $7 billion.
  • Al-Sheikh has already cornered the boxing market, and is looking to add soccer to his portfolio.

Turki Al-Sheikh has sparked rumors of a potential Manchester United takeover, but the current owners, the Glazer family, are putting a massive price on the club.

After dominating the boxing world, Al-Sheikh could be looking to add one of the biggest sports clubs in the world to his collection.

Glazers Slap $7 Billion Price Tag on Manchester United

In a social-media post that has since been deleted, Al-Sheikh alluded that Manchester United could be sold to a new investor, and that person is likely him, if you read between the lines.

Al-Sheikh has been extremely busy in the last two years. He could be the top boxing promoter in the world now. He signed Canelo Alvarez to a four-fight deal, and helped promote the massive Alvarez-Terence Crawford fight in September. His Riyadh Season events have featured a number of boxing and MMA cards, as well as WWE.

Al-Sheikh is also behind the 6 Kings Slam, a tennis event featuring the sport’s biggest male stars, on October 15. He has also reportedly tried to buy Bristol City, but Al-Sheikh has set his sights on a much bigger club.

The Glazer family currently owns the majority of the club, and they’re not going to make it cheap to buy. They have reportedly slapped a price tag of almost $7 billion on Manchester United, despite the club being worth $2 billion. They’re looking to cash in on the potential future of the club, including plans for a brand-new stadium.

But will this actually happen?

What are the Odds Manchester United Could Be Sold to Turki Al-Sheikh?

There are no odds at soccer betting sites on a potential sale of Manchester United, but it’s definitely possible. Fans have been wanting the Glazers to sell the club for years now, and while they sold about 29% to English businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe, most fans would be ecstatic if they were gone altogether.

This is not the first time someone from Saudi Arabia has tried to buy United. Ratcliffe had to compete with Sheikh Jassim, who reportedly bid around $7.3 billion, but there was no proof of funds, and the deal fell through.

Manchester United are also allegedly in talks with Al-Sheikh about a midseason friendly match in Saudi Arabia to drum up revenue. This could grease the wheels for a potential sale. It should be noted that neither Ratcliffe nor the Glazers have commented on this situation. Many inside the club seemed to be shocked at this news.

But Al-Sheikh is persistent and usually doesn’t take “no” for an answer. This negotiating process, if all is true, could shake up the soccer world!
