Newcastle Reject Isak Offer from Liverpool; Where Will the Striker Player This Season?

  • Newcastle United have turned down a massive $145 million offer from Liverpool for star striker Alexander Isak.
  • The Swedish international has requested a transfer out of Newcastle, but the club isn’t budging.
  • With the EPL season starting on August 15, where will Isak play?

Newcastle United have rebuffed a $145 million offer from Liverpool for striker Alexander Isak, who wants to leave the club.

The English Premier League season starts on August 15, and all eyes will be on where Isak starts the campaign.

Big-Spending Liverpool Rejected by Newcastle; Isak Training with Old Club

Liverpool have been interested in Isak for some time, but their first official approach of $145 million was snuffed out by Newcastle. The Reds, who are looking to defend their EPL title, bought midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for $132 million. They also purchased striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for $91 million, and spent $90 million on fullbacks Jeremie Frimpong (Leverkusen) and Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth).

Isak is coming off a career-best year in his third season with Newcastle. The 25-year-old striker (Isak turns 26 on September 21) scored 27 goals in 42 games for Newcastle, who will play in the Champions League next season after finishing fifth in the EPL. The club spent a record $83 million to land Isak from Real Sociedad in August 2022.

Now, Newcastle is trying to fend off all interest in Isak, starting with the initial Liverpool bid. But Isak wants to leave the club and is training at Real Sociedad. Isak decided not to join Newcastle on their preseason tour as he looks to force a move.

Where Will Alexander Isak Play This Season?

The EPL title odds at soccer betting sites hang in the balance as bookies wait to see what happens to Isak. Liverpool is favored right now and will be even if they don’t land Isak. However, their lead over Manchester City and Arsenal will grow if they add Isak to an already-outstanding team. They know very well what Isak can do. He scored against Liverpool in Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Liverpool in the EFL Cup final, and again in a 3-3 draw at St. James Park in a league match.

Isak still has three years left on his contract, but money talks in sports, and Newcastle can be enticed to sell if the price is right. There aren’t many teams, this late in the transfer window, that can buy Isak. He has already turned down a move to Saudi Arabia. Most of the other European teams either can’t afford Isak or don’t need him (mostly, the former).

Liverpool won’t be put off by this rejection, so you can expect them to try again. The transfer window closes in England on September 1 at 2 PM Eastern time. You can expect representatives from Liverpool, Newcastle, and Isak’s camp, to burn up the phone lines trying to get a deal done by the end of the window.

Keep an eye out for Alexander Isak next club odds, because it seems like he is on his way out of Newcastle, and Liverpool are going to test their resolve to land the star forward!
