Oliver Glasner Leaving Crystal Palace at Season’s End; Manchester United Next?

  • Oliver Glasner is leaving his post as manager of Crystal Palace at the end of the season.
  • Crystal Palace has also sold captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City.
  • Could Glasner be on his way to Manchester United this summer?

Manager Oliver Glasner has announced that he is leaving Crystal Palace at the end of this season, when his contract expires. Palace just lost captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City.

Glasner is one of the favorites to manage Manchester United. Will he go to the red half of Manchester this summer?

Palace Losing Glasner, Have Already Lost Guehi in Tough Season

Glasner revealed the news on Friday as Palace is preparing to face Sunderland on Saturday.

The Austrian said:

“A decision has already been taken, months ago. I had a meeting with Steve [Parish, Crystal Palace owner] in October, the international break.

We had a very long talk, and I told him I will not sign a new contract.

We agreed at the time it was best to keep it between us. It's best that we could do that and keep it confidential for three months. I told the team today, because I think now it's important to have clarity.”

Glasner helped Crystal Palace to their first-ever major trophy by upsetting Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final last season. However, Palace sold FA Cup goal-scorer Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in August, and Glasner almost left after Palace was going to sell Guehi to Liverpool. He demanded Palace keep Guehi, or Glasner was going to leave.

Now, Palace is going to go into next season without either Glasner or Guehi. The defender and captain was sold to Manchester City for £20m, although final terms are still being discussed. Guehi’s contract was up this summer, and he would have been able to leave for free.

Meanwhile, Palace sits 13th in the Premier League standings. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Macclesfield, who are in the National League North, which is five tiers below the Premier League. It may be the biggest FA Cup upset ever.

Palace heads into an uncertain future. But what is next for Glasner?

Will Oliver Glasner Go to Manchester United This Summer?

Next Manchester United manager odds had Glasner second only to former Chelsea manager Enzo Marseca shortly after United fired Ruben Amorim. United and Glasner have been linked for a while now, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him as the favorite now that it’s official he’s leaving Palace.

United recently named Michael Carrick as their manager until the end of the season, but they have surely already reached out to Glasner to gauge his interest in heading to the red half of Manchester. Some wonder if Glasner can make the jump from Crystal Palace to Manchester United. But he has done a fantastic job at Palace without having much money to spend. He was also successful in Germany, getting Wolfsburg to the Europa League and Champions League, and Frankfurt to the Champions League.

Expect to hear United fans clamoring for Glasner to head to Old Trafford in the summer. United is looking to restore their past glory, and Oliver Glasner could be the man to lead them!
