Wyndham Clark caused a stir at the 2025 U.S. Open, damaging his locker after missing the cut at Oakmont Country Club. The club president has announced Clark is banned from the property.
Clark will be allowed back at Oakmont after paying for the damages, as well as taking anger management classes, and making a donation to a charity of the club’s choosing.
Clark Smashes Lockers After Missing Cut at Oakmont
Clark made news for his tantrum at Oakmont at the U.S. Open last month, and it caused Oakmont to take action, banning the player from the property.
Oakmont president John Lynch wrote a letter to the club’s membership:
"Several of you have inquired about the situation involving Wyndham Clark and the steps being taken in response to his recent behavior. Following multiple discussions with the USGA and the OCC Board, a decision has been made that Mr. Clark will no longer be permitted on OCC property.
This decision will remain in effect unless formally reconsidered and approved by the Board."
Clark, who won the 2023 U.S. Open Championship at Los Angeles Country Club, apologized the following week.
"I've had a lot of highs and lows in my career, especially this year some lows. I made a mistake that I deeply regret. I'm very sorry for what happened. But I'd also like to move on, not only for myself but for Oakmont, for the USGA, and kind of focus on the rest of the year and things that come up."
Lynch also said in the letter that Clark will be allowed to return to Oakmont, which will host the U.S. Open next in 2033. However, he has to make a “meaningful contribution” to a charity that the club selects. He’ll also have to take anger management classes or counseling and pays for the damage he caused.
Clark is teeing it up at Royal Portrush this week, where he is well down the board in the British Open odds.
Will Wyndham Clark Learn His Lesson?
Only time will tell if Clark learns from this situation. However, it’s not even the only time he has done something in 2025! At the PGA Championship, Clark threw his driver after a bad swing. Ironically, he broke a sign from T-Mobile, who is one of Clark’s sponsors.
If Clark continues to behave like this, he will lose sponsors, which is a major part of his income, especially when he isn’t playing well. Clark has just one top-10 in 19 starts this season, and has gone T46-T50-MC in the majors. Clark is a talented player, but he needs to get his emotions in check before things really start to go south, both on and off the course!
