  • Construction is still ongoing at the former Bon-Ton Department Store site at the Newburgh Mall.
  • The property is 44 miles across its sister casino Resorts World Catskill in Sullivan County.

While there is no exact opening date yet, Resorts World Hudson is expected to open to the public this fall.

Officials made the declaration in a recent interview which has created excitement across the Hudson Valley. The casino is touted to revitalize the mall while also creating new jobs for locals and more economic activity in the area. It would also be a huge help to NYS’ public schools via revenue taxes.

Resorts World Hudson Valley Casino is Currently Under Construction

Resorts World Hudson is a 90,000-square-foot casino that will take over the former spot of the Bon-Ton Department Store inside the Newburgh Mall in Newburgh, New York. The $32 million project will have 1,200 slot machines, table games, and sports betting. The casino will feature the company’s signature Bar360, which will have a 360-degree view of the casino. The sports betting bar will be branded as Resorts WorldBET Sports Bar.

Construction of the Resorts World Hudson is ongoing, and although the owners have not set a definitive completion date, the activities on the Mall suggest that it could be sooner than later. Last month, Sears announced that it will be closing on October 16th, ending the longest-tenured store in the Mall. The closure was to pave the way for the construction of the casino.

The casino project has created 200 construction jobs and will add 300 new permanent positions once it is operational, with jobs ranging from slot technicians, bartenders, security officers, environmental services, and many more. The company continues to hold recruitment activities in a space inside the mall and near the site. It is estimated that the casino will generate a total payroll of $15.5 million while the casino is projected to pay $3 million in annual taxes to the city.

44 Miles from Resorts World Catskill

The Newburgh Mall site, which is located on Route 300 near Interstates 84 and 87, would be an estimated 44 miles away from the company’s other gaming property in Resorts World Catskill in Sullivan County. Resorts World Catskill is built on the former Concord Hotel site and has a total gaming area of 65,000 square feet while featuring over 2,150 slot machines, 112 table games, and an 18-story hotel with 332 suites.

Resorts World Catskill is operated by a parent company called Empire Resorts, which is a subsidiary of the Malaysian-based Genting Group. Aside from doing business in the leisure and hospitality industries, the Kuala Lumpur company is also engaged in property development, plantation, life sciences, biotechnology, oil and gas, e-commerce, energy, and information technology.

Empire Resorts has a subsidiary named Monticello Raceway Management Inc. which operates the Monticello Casino and Raceway, also in Sullivan Country. The 230-acre property has one of the largest all-weather harness horse racing courses in the country. It includes a gaming compound that has over 1,110 VGMs, and 40 electronic table game positions on 45,000 square feet of space, with a separate area for high-stakes gamblers.
