T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 Odds And Predictions: Will India Prevail?

The ICC T20 World Cup betting odds are up, so it’s time to prepare for the tournament! The top cricket betting sites don’t have a clear favorite for the event in the West Indies and United States.

A record 20 teams will participate in the T20 World Cup 2024 after the event was expanded from 16 in 2022. Despite four more countries participating, the usual suspects have the best odds of winning the T20 World Cup.

England returns to defend their T20 World Cup title, but India and Australia are ahead of the champs according to the oddsmakers. Below, check out the favorites, longshots, and our exclusive 2024 T20 World Cup predictions!

2024 T20 World Cup Betting Odds

The following betting odds on T20 World Cup are courtesy of BetUS:

TEAMODDS
India+330
Australia+350
England+450
South Africa+650
Pakistan+800
West Indies+800
New Zealand+800
Sri Lanka+4000

India (+330) is the betting favorite to win the T20 World Cup 2024. They hold a small edge on Australia (+350) at most sports betting sites. As the favorite, India has an implied probability to win the T20 World Cup of 23.3%.

The bookies obviously expect a competitive tournament. At +350, Australia is right behind India, with a 22.2% chance, so you can nearly consider these teams co-favorites.

England has +450 odds to defend their T20 World Cup title, which equals an implied chance of 18.2% for the champions. I talk more about the top teams, but let’s check the format first.

2024 ICC T20 World Cup Format And Key Info

The ICC 2024 T20 World Cup 2024 will begin group stage matches on June 1. After a month of competition, a champion will be crowned on June 29 at Kensington Oval in the West Indies.

The T20 World Cup teams are split into four groups with five contestants in each of them. The top two squads from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage. The Super Eight, which consists of two groups of four, will start on June 19 and finish on June 25.

Scheduled to take place on June 26 and June 27, the semifinal matches will determine who plays in the T20 World Cup 2024 title match on June 29.

Note: T20 matches typically take three to four hours to complete, in contrast to ODI (7-8 hours approx.) and Test (five days; 7:30 hours per day) cricket, which take much longer for a game to be decided. With matches being played at first-time venues in the US, there could be some interesting results in the group stage.

2024 T20 World Cup Favorites

Before delving into my top T20 World Cup picks to win, check out the analysis of the main contenders. India, Australia, and England are in the top tier among the favorites, so let’s break all three squads down below:

India (+330) – Can India End The T20 Drought?

  • Head Coach: Rahul Dravid
  • ICC T20 Ranking: 1st
  • Impact Players: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli
  • Best T20 World Cup Finish: 1st (2007)

Every cricket fan knows that India is a talented squad, but T20 World Cup tournaments have historically not been their strong suit. Call it a mental block or whatever you choose. However, one T20 World Cup title since 2007 is a disappointing result.

For a team with its talent pool, it’s unacceptable that India has come up short as often as they have. In 2022, England beat India by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup semifinals.

Indian fans were left devastated by such an uncompetitive defeat. I’m sure they remember this one, so I don’t expect any overconfidence this time around.

On paper, India is a talented bunch, but past efforts in T20 competitions by some of their stars haven’t been consistent.

Jasprit Bumrah should be fine with pace in this tournament. However, India’s other bowlers could be limited. I don’t give high marks to Rohit Sharma for the opening position, either.

The 37-year-old captain has done many things well for India over his legendary career. Sharma’s recent T20 form suggests that he could struggle from the opening spot for the Indian side.

This roster is better suited for having success in an ODI tournament than T20. They don’t appear to have the right bowlers — which includes four spinners — for the T20 format to win a World Cup.

There isn’t much value on India to win the 2024 T20 World Cup as a favorite.

Australia (+350) – The Aussies Offer The Best Value?

  • Head Coach: Andrew McDonald
  • ICC T20 Ranking: 2nd
  • Impact Players: Mitch Marsh, Pat Cummins, Travis Head
  • Best T20 World Cup Finish: 1st (2021)

Australia is only three years removed from winning their first T20 World Cup. The Aussies beat rival New Zealand by eight wickets to lift the trophy.

Despite failing to defend their title a year later, Australia has arguably a better roster at the 2024 T20 World Cup. With the second-shortest T20 World Cup betting odds, most betting apps and sites agree that Australia has a strong opportunity.

The country has compiled a well-balanced squad led by Mitch Mash and bowler Pat Cummins. Also, Travis Head has recently been in strong form in the IPL. The 30-year-old native of Adelaide is a dominant batsman for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He has scored an incredible 533 runs at an average of 53.30 in 11 matches! He also posted a strike rate of 201.89. Nevertheless, Head remains level-headed going into the T20 World Cup, and his IPL form doesn’t promise success in this tournament.

While that is undoubtedly true, Head’s form is hard to match currently. If he can maintain this rhythm, Australia should be in good hands. Led by Pat Cummins, the bowling from the Aussies is unlikely to be a major concern. On paper, Australia has the best bowling unit in the T20 World Cup.

Batsman depth from their reserves is an issue, though. If Australia remains healthy, they will be in top shape to win, especially with their elite-level bowlers. In any event, at +350, Australia appears to be one of the best T20 World Cup 2024 picks on the board.

England (+450) – Built To Repeat?

  • Head Coach: Matthew Mott
  • ICC T20 Ranking: 3rd
  • Impact Players: Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Harry Brook
  • Best T20 World Cup Finish: 1st (2022)

England has a chance to do something that has never been done before in T20 World Cup history. If they repeat, they will be the first nation to win back-to-back titles in this event.

Parity has provided enjoyable T20 World Cups despite taking a backseat to ODI. England had the most entertaining 2022 T20 World Cup of all the teams. They captured the title after defeating Pakistan by five pickets.

All the credit to Pakistan for reaching the final, but England was just too much. Will the country celebrate another championship in 2024? Overall, the English bring a stout roster with them to this tournament.

Chris Jordan is a questionable addition, while one of England’s top players Ben Stokes has opted out to rest. Missing England’s Test captain and all-around talent may not matter in the group stage, but his absence could hurt in the Super Eight. Jos Buttler is a sharp T20 player, though, so he certainly helps.

The fast bowlers on this squad aren’t the most durable. There are some concerns from that perspective, but they should still score consistently. Aside from Australia, England is the most complete team at the T20 World Cup.

The Rest Of The Bunch

Here, I highlight the top dark horse and outside picks besides the favorites that can win. There are two squads in particular in the ICC T20 World Cup odds which have caught my attention.

As is common in T20, it may be a wide-open event, so it’s a good idea to make a smaller bet on teams with longer odds to win:

  1. Motivation shouldn’t be a concern for the West Indies side. With the home crowd behind them at home, the West Indies are likely to have an extra kick in their step at the T20 World Cup.

Additionally, the team features solid batsmen down their order. Offensive production is a strong point of this squad in 2024. If the spinners can rise to the occasion, West Indies will be in business because the scoring will likely be there at home.

  2. Although Pakistan reached the final two years ago, they aren’t being held in the highest regard by oddsmakers. At +800 odds to win the T20 World Cup, the public seems to be disregarding Pakistan’s potential as well.

However, looking past Mohammed Ali’s talent is ill-advised. He needs somebody like Fakhar Zaman to step up and get into form, but there is potential with this squad if the roster is in top form. They aren’t a top T20 World Cup pick, though if everything comes together, there is a real opportunity to find glory.

2024 T20 World Cup Predictions and Betting Pick

Australia has the best chance of winning because the nation comes to the T20 World Cup with the most well-rounded team.

Head is in insane form heading into the competition and could prove to be the difference for Australia. Along with fast bowler Cummins, the nation has plenty working in their favor this year.

If Australia enters the T20 World Cup with the right mindset, they team will be the front-runner to win their second championship in three years.

Look for Australia’s balanced roster and top-end bowling to be too much for opponents, so consider putting your money behind the Aussies.
