Trump Favored for 2024 TIME Person of the Year

  • Former President Donald Trump has opened as the betting favorite to win 2024 TIME Person of the Year.
  • Amid a presidential bid to regain control of the White House, Trump has been embroiled in multiple criminal charges and civil lawsuits in 2024.
  • Open AI founder, Sam Altman, is projected to be the runner-up for TIME Person of the Year in 2024.

Former President Donald Trump has been named the 2024 TIME Person of the Year betting favorite. According to BetOnline, Trump’s +400 odds are the shortest to be recognized as the 2024 TIME Person of the Year.

Despite not being a strong favorite, Trump’s TIME Person of the Year odds are lower than Sam Altman (+500), Joe Biden (+600), A.I. (+600), and Elon Musk (+800). At +400, Trump has an implied chance of 20% to be announced as the winner.

TIME Person of the Year is bestowed annually on a person, group of individuals, or object, who was the most influential or newsworthy in the past year. It is not an award or necessarily an honor, but a recognition of their influence in society and the media.

Last year, Taylor Swift cruised to the 2023 TIME Person of the Year after closing as an overwhelming favorite. In December, Swift edged out Musk and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. If it’s Trump in 2024, it would be an interesting dichotomy between the 2023 and 2024 TIME Person of the Year.

Trump Favorite to Win GOP Nomination While Facing Prison Time

That is certainly a wild headline, but the former president is most likely going to be the Republican nominee. Trump is a strong -5000 favorite to win the Republican nomination, which translates to a 98% chance.

With Trump steamrolling Nikki Haley in the Republican primaries, he is well on his way to representing the Republican Party in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. Haley is running out of paths to a victory.

Additionally, on Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court announced that Trump can stay on the ballot in Colorado. The ruling will subsequently apply to the other states that wish to keep the former president off the ballot, as well.

That removes one roadblock preventing Trump from running for the White House in 2024. However, Trump is also facing 91 charges in four separate criminal cases. If convicted, Trump could receive a sentence that includes prison time.

Nevertheless, Trump is favored to win the GOP nomination and is currently a +105 favorite to win the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. With all this information considered, it’s a guarantee that he will continue to be headline-worthy through the end of the year.

The Year of A.I.

It’s worth mentioning that two of the favorites for 2024 TIME Person of the Year are related to the rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). At +600, A.I. is tied with Biden for the third-best odds. Also, the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman has the second-shortest odds at +500.

Altman’s company, known for the creation of ChatGPT, has solid claims of being the 2024 TIME Person of the Year. Despite not being as much of a household name in the tech industry as Musk or Mark Zuckerberg, for instance, Altman is expected to receive more attention in 2024.

Musk’s lawsuit filed against OpenAI and Altman could garner plenty of awareness this year. The 52-year-old founder and CEO of SpaceX is arguing that Altman is straying from the company’s founding mission of helping humanity.

Rather than benefit humanity, Musk claims that Altman’s OpenAI is being used for profits and not what it was originally intended to be used for. Musk is in the process of developing his own A.I. business endeavor — xAI.

Altman and A.I. have separate odds at BetOnline, so either way, there is a decent chance of A.I. being recognized in some form for 2024 TIME Person of the Year. However, Altman and A.I. will have to steal the spotlight away from Trump in an election year, which may prove to be too tall of a task.
