What Is the House Edge of All Craps Wagers?

What Is the House Edge of All Craps Wagers?

The house edge in craps varies between the different wagers. The casino’s advantage is quite reasonable for some bets and very high for others. That’s why it’s good to know the craps house edge for all options, making sure to take the more rewarding wagers.

I provide a full chart, covering all popular craps bet types. Before we get there, though, here’s a quick explanation of what the house edge is.

What Is the House Edge in Craps?

The house edge in craps represents the percentage of each bet that the casino is set to earn in the long run. Essentially, that’s what the players are expected to lose after a large number of wagers. The higher the number, the better for the casino. The lower, the better for the player.

The craps house edge doesn’t change based on previous rolls of the dice, and it doesn’t change based on the bets of the other players at the table. Both land-based and online craps include a house edge.

How is Craps House Edge Displayed?

Usually, you’ll see house edges as a percentage. A house edge of 1.5% means that the casino is expected to win 1.5% of all the money wagered on that specific bet in the long run.

Craps House Edge Chart: Common Bets

Craps Bet House Edge
Odds Bet 0%
Pass Line, Come Bet 1.41%
Don’t Pass, Don’t Come 1.4%
Place Bets on 6&8 1.52%
Lay 4 or 10 2.44%
Lay 5 or 9 3.23%
Place Bets on 5&9 4%
Lay 6 or 8 4%
Any Buy Bet 4.76%
Field Bet 5.56%
Place Bets on 4&10 6.6%
Yo (11) or 3 11.10%
Any Craps 11.14%
Any 7 16%

Note that buy bets are balanced because of their return and vig tax. As you can see, you should avoid bets like any 7 because of the enormous house edge (16%) compared to wagers like Don’t Pass, Don’t Come (1.4%).

How Is the Craps House Edge Calculated?

The house edge is calculated using dice probability. These dice probabilities and their outcomes are real and mathematically accurate.

The probability of rolling a specific number is reset every time you roll, unaffected by the last roll. If you rolled dice a near infinite number of times, you’d see a balanced number of rolls, but this isn’t useful in predicting outcomes of a single night of craps.

There are 36 dice combinations with varying likelihoods.

What Games Have a Better House Edge Than Craps?

The average baccarat bet is only on a 1.24% house edge. Depending on your understanding of the game, some blackjack hands have as low as a 0.28% house edge. In some video poker games, you could achieve a negative house edge with optimal strategy.

Is the Online Craps House Edge Different?

The house edge in online craps is the same as live tables, so the casino’s advantage is virtually the same. Still, you can enjoy significantly more perks online in the form of bonuses and promotions. The extra cash you can get essentially reduces the house edge.

If you want to try a good online casino for craps, I recommend Las Atlantis Casino. They offer a few different versions of craps and excellent bonuses.
