2024 PGA Championship Betting Odds, Analysis, and Predictions

2024 PGA Championship Betting Odds, Analysis, and Predictions

The PGA Championship odds from the top golf betting sites are very similar to what we had for the Masters. Scottie Scheffler walked into Augusta as the #1 player in the world and the only thing that could have stopped him was the impending birth of his first child, as he said he would have left the Masters as soon as he got a call from his wife.

His baby has yet to arrive, but the bookies are still putting Scheffler at the top of the PGA Championship betting odds. Who will step up to challenge Scheffler’s reign? Let’s have a look at the prices for the second major of the year, which returns to Valhalla in Kentucky for the first time since 2014.

2024 PGA Championship Winner Odds

The following betting odds for the 2024 PGA Championship are courtesy of Bovada:

PLAYERODDS
Scottie Scheffler+350
Jon Rahm+1200
Rory McIlroy+1200
Ludvig Aberg+1600
Brooks Koepka+2000
Xander Schauffele+2000
Bryson DeChambeau+2500
Collin Morikawa+2500
Max Homa+2500
Patrick Cantlay+2500
Viktor Hovland+2500

Scheffler (+350) is the runaway favorite to win the 2024 PGA Championship. This is even lower than the +450 he was favored at ahead of the Masters!

Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy (+1200) are tied for second-favorite at most offshore sportsbooks, which equals an implied probability of 7.7% to win the PGA Championship. This lags well behind Scheffler’s 22.2%.

Ludwig Aberg (+1600) has been touted as the next up-and-comer on the PGA Tour, while a host of names (Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele, and Bryson DeChambeau, among others) are hanging around the top section of the 2024 PGA Championship odds.

The legendary Tiger Woods (+15000) made the cut at the Masters, but finished last in the field. Phil Mickelson (+20000) finished T43, eight shots better than Woods. These icons of the game have six Wanamaker Trophies between them (Woods with four, Mickelson with two). However, it would be a near-miracle if either won at Valhalla.

PGA Championship 2024 Top Favorites

The following players rank at the top of the list at most online sportsbooks, so you can’t ignore them when working on your 2024 PGA Championship predictions and best bets.

Scottie Scheffler (+350)

Scheffler was the biggest Masters favorite since Tiger Woods in 2013. He’s an even bigger favorite to win at Valhalla, according to the 2024 PGA Championship odds. Furthermore, the world number 1 is favored to win the upcoming US Open and the Open Championship, both by wide margins.

The Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) reflects Scheffler’s dominance. He sits atop the rankings with 683.7 points. Reigning US Open champion Wyndham Clark is in second with 333.9 points as of May 3, 2024.

Tournament Form

In 10 starts this season, Scheffler hasn’t finished lower than T17. He has won four of his last five starts, including the Masters and the Players Championship. He might have won the Houston Open as well but missed a five-foot putt to force a playoff with Stephen Jaeger.

Scheffler leads the FedEx Cup standings by 2,023 points over Clark. That margin is larger than the gap between Clark and Chris Stroud, the last player in the standings! Right now, it’s tough to imagine anyone outside of Scheffler winning any golf tournament he tees it up at.

Scheffler 2024 Results:

  • Jan. 7, 2024 – T5 at The Sentry
  • Jan. 21, 2024 – T17 at The American Express
  • Feb. 4, 2024 – T6 at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
  • Feb. 11, 2024 – T3 at WM Phoenix Open
  • Feb. 18, 2024 – T10 at The Genesis Invitational
  • March 10, 2024 – 1st at Arnold Palmer Invitational
  • March 17, 2024 – 1st at The Players Championship
  • March 31, 2024 – T2 at Texas Children’s Houston Open
  • April 14, 2024 – 1st at The Masters
  • April 21, 2024 – 1st at the RBC Heritage

The results speak for themselves with Scheffler. He’s dominating the golf world in a way we haven’t seen since Woods in his prime. Of course, he’ll have to sustain it, but Scheffler has the mental makeup to put everything to the side and just play golf.

With four wins and a T2 in his last five, it’s no surprise that Scheffler is the golf betting favorite for the 2024 PGA Championship.

Stats & Performance

Scheffler ranks at or near the top in all the major statistical categories. Even though his putting ranking is low, the improvement has been palpable, which means the golf world is in trouble.

Scheffler 2024 Stats (PGA):

  • Scoring Average: 1st (68.74)
  • SG: Total: 1st (2.851)
  • SG: Off The Tee: 1st (0.957)
  • SG: Approach the Green: 1st (1.398)
  • SG: Around The Green: 6th (0.480)
  • SG: Putting: 94th (0.016)

The putting, as always, sticks out like a sore thumb with Scheffler. However, he switched to a mallet putter just before the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which he went on to win by five strokes over Clark. Scheffler still isn’t a great putter, but as long as he’s even just “decent”, that’s good enough.

Jon Rahm (+1200)

Rahm has dipped from third to fifth in the OWGR rankings. While he managed to make the cut at Augusta, the Spaniard finished T45 in his Masters title defense. Can he get back on track at the PGA Championship?

Tournament Form

Even though LIV Golf doesn’t get any OWGR points, Rahm has been playing well there, posting top-10s in his first six LIV events.

Rahm 2024 Results:

  • Feb. 4, 2024 – T3 at LIV Golf Mayakoba
  • Feb. 10, 2024 – 8th at LIV Golf Las Vegas
  • March 3, 2024 – 5th at LIV Golf Jeddah
  • March 10, 2024 – T8 at LIV Golf Hong Kong
  • April 7, 2024 – T4 at LIV Golf Miami
  • April 14, 2024 – T45 at the Masters
  • April 28, 2024 – 4th at LIV Golf Adelaide

Rahm did bounce back from his disappointing Masters title defense with a fourth-place finish at LIV Adelaide. While there has been some hesitancy about backing LIV players in majors, Rahm can take solace in some good performances at the Masters. Bryson DeChambeau (T6), Cam Smith (T6), and Tyrrell Hatton (T9) all finished in the top 10, with Patrick Reed (T12) just outside. Rahm had a lot of distractions at Augusta, being the defending champion, so hopefully he’s focused at Valhalla.

Stats & Performance (LIV)

Rahm was one of the top performers on the PGA Tour before he left for LIV. That has continued as  the Spanish star ranks high in a number of important categories there.

white-lightbulb

Rahm 2024 Stats (LIV):

  • Scrambling: 10th (67.67%)
  • Birdie Average: 1st (5.28)
  • Fairway Hit: 13th (58.73%)
  • Greens In Regulation: 2nd (75.0%)
  • Putting Average: T13 (1.58)

Rahm’s putting largely let him down at Augusta, but the greens at Valhalla are much larger, although they have a lot of undulation. If Rahm can improve on the greens, he could make a run up the 2024 PGA Championship betting odds.

Rory McIlroy (+1200)

McIlroy is battling with Clark for second in the OWGR rankings, and he’s had a relatively inconsistent 2024 season. After finishing T7 or better in the last three majors of 2023, McIlroy finished T22 at the Masters and never really challenged the top of the leaderboard.

However, McIlroy is a two-time PGA Championship winner, raising the Wanamaker Trophy in 2012 and 2014. That 2014 victory came at Valhalla, so the Irish golfer might be able to glean some good vibes.

Tournament Form

McIlroy started slow at Pebble Beach, but he improved heading into the Masters. However, a second-round 77 in tough conditions basically ended any chances of him winning the Masters.

McIlroy 2024 Results:

  • Feb. 4, 2024 – T66 at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
  • Feb. 18, 2024 – T24 at The Genesis Invitational
  • March 3, 2024 – T21 at Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches
  • March 10, 2024 – T21 at Arnold Palmer Invitational
  • March 17, 2024 – T19 at The Players Championship
  • April 7, 2024 – 3rd at Valero Texas Open
  • April 14, 2024 – T22 at the Masters
  • April 21, 2024 – T33 at the RBC Heritage
  • April 28, 2024 – 1st at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans

After a T33 at Hilton Head, McIlroy teamed up with Shane Lowry to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Hanging with his good friend for a successful week will hopefully give McIlroy more confidence as he attempts to win his first major since that win at Valhalla back in 2014.

Stats & Performance (PGA)

McIlroy continues to be one of the best drivers of the ball that golf has ever seen. He drives it long, and he drives it accurately.

It’s the short game that continues to trouble the Northern Ireland star. McIlroy has been inconsistent with his irons, brutal around the greens and then struggling when he gets on the putting surface.

white-lightbulb

McIlroy 2024 Stats (PGA):

  • Scoring Average: 1st (68.74)
  • SG: Total: 20th (0.905)
  • SG: Off The Tee: 7th (0.787)
  • SG: Approach the Green: 75th (0.120)
  • SG: Around The Green: 110th (-0.047)
  • SG: Putting: 88th (0.045)

When McIlroy’s game all comes together like it did at the Valero Texas Open and in New Orleans, he’s a joy to watch. He’s also finished eighth or better in seven of his last nine major starts. However McIlroy has to show a little more mental toughness down the stretch and finish strong, especially with the flatstick.

Best Longshots For The 2024 PGA Championship

Scheffler’s 2024 PGA Championship odds make everyone else look like a longshot bet. That means you don’t have to go too far down the list to find some value at the top online sports betting sites.

  1. Brooks Koepka (+2000)

Koepka has finished top 10 in two of six LIV Golf events this year, although he was 12th and 13th in two other events. He was also T45 at the Masters. However, Koepka has won three PGA Championships, including last year at Oak Hill by two shots over Scheffler and Viktor Hovland. The defending PGA Champion is seventh in Greens In Regulation at LIV, and he’s 11th in birdies. On the downside, Koepka ranks 38th in putting average, so he’s going to need a good week on the greens at Valhalla.

  2. Collin Morikawa (+2500)

Morikawa’s season has been a mixed bag, with five top-20s and two missed cuts. Still, he got back on track with a T3 at the Masters, followed by a solo ninth at the RBC Heritage and then a T23 with Kurt Kitayama in New Orleans. He has also won two majors, including the PGA Championship in his first-ever start in the tournament back in 2020 at TPC Harding Park. His iron game and putting have shown signs of life in the last few weeks, despite his low starts (96th in SG: Approach and 135th in SG: Putting).

  3. Tommy Fleetwood (+3500)

The Englishman has come around after a slow start, finishing T7 at the Valero Texas Open and T3 at the Masters. He finished T49 at the RBC Heritage, but after a taxing weekend at Augusta, we can overlook that. The numbers aren’t great for Fleetwood, who is 112th in SG Total. However, his game is on the upswing and if he can sort out his usually-reliable irons (172nd in SG: Approach), Fleetwood could make some noise at Valhalla.

  4. Hideki Matsuyama (+4000)

The 2021 Masters champion finished T38 at Augusta, but he had been red-hot before that. Matsuyama won the Genesis Invitational, rolling off a streak of four finishes of T12 or better. He’s second in SG: Tee to Green, and first in SG: Around The Green. The problem is that he need a good week on the greens as Matsuyama is 149th in SG: Putting.

PGA Championship 2024 Prediction & Betting Pick

The smart choice among PGA Championship picks is Scheffler, the best golfer on the planet right now, even at these short 2024 PGA Championship odds. The only worry is that the birth of his child might take away from his ability to practice leading up to the tournament, and rightfully so. This might be the best chance anyone has to slow down Scheffler’s current run.

Another player to watch in these PGA Championship betting odds is Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg, who finished solo second at the Masters, his first-ever start in a major championship. He also won the RSM Classic in November 2023 for his first PGA Tour win. Aberg and Hovland also rolled over Scheffler and Koepka 9-and-7 in the Ryder Cup, where Aberg won two points. He has five top 10s in 10 starts and a good all-around game but has had troubles around the green.

If you’re not going to pick Scheffler, I’d lean towards Aberg. However, I’m still rolling with Scheffler, based on 10 wins over the last 26 months and his overall tremendous play.
