Scheffler (+350) is the runaway favorite to win the 2024 PGA Championship. This is even lower than the +450 he was favored at ahead of the Masters!
Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy (+1200) are tied for second-favorite at most offshore sportsbooks, which equals an implied probability of 7.7% to win the PGA Championship. This lags well behind Scheffler’s 22.2%.
Ludwig Aberg (+1600) has been touted as the next up-and-comer on the PGA Tour, while a host of names (Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele, and Bryson DeChambeau, among others) are hanging around the top section of the 2024 PGA Championship odds.
The legendary Tiger Woods (+15000) made the cut at the Masters, but finished last in the field. Phil Mickelson (+20000) finished T43, eight shots better than Woods. These icons of the game have six Wanamaker Trophies between them (Woods with four, Mickelson with two). However, it would be a near-miracle if either won at Valhalla.

The Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) reflects Scheffler’s dominance. He sits atop the rankings with 683.7 points. Reigning US Open champion Wyndham Clark is in second with 333.9 points as of May 3, 2024.
Tournament Form
In 10 starts this season, Scheffler hasn’t finished lower than T17. He has won four of his last five starts, including the Masters and the Players Championship. He might have won the Houston Open as well but missed a five-foot putt to force a playoff with Stephen Jaeger.
Scheffler leads the FedEx Cup standings by 2,023 points over Clark. That margin is larger than the gap between Clark and Chris Stroud, the last player in the standings! Right now, it’s tough to imagine anyone outside of Scheffler winning any golf tournament he tees it up at.

Scheffler ranks at or near the top in all the major statistical categories. Even though his putting ranking is low, the improvement has been palpable, which means the golf world is in trouble.

Jon Rahm (+1200)
Rahm has dipped from third to fifth in the OWGR rankings. While he managed to make the cut at Augusta, the Spaniard finished T45 in his Masters title defense. Can he get back on track at the PGA Championship?

Even though LIV Golf doesn’t get any OWGR points, Rahm has been playing well there, posting top-10s in his first six LIV events.

Rahm did bounce back from his disappointing Masters title defense with a fourth-place finish at LIV Adelaide. While there has been some hesitancy about backing LIV players in majors, Rahm can take solace in some good performances at the Masters. Bryson DeChambeau (T6), Cam Smith (T6), and Tyrrell Hatton (T9) all finished in the top 10, with Patrick Reed (T12) just outside. Rahm had a lot of distractions at Augusta, being the defending champion, so hopefully he’s focused at Valhalla.

Rahm was one of the top performers on the PGA Tour before he left for LIV. That has continued as the Spanish star ranks high in a number of important categories there.

Rahm’s putting largely let him down at Augusta, but the greens at Valhalla are much larger, although they have a lot of undulation. If Rahm can improve on the greens, he could make a run up the 2024 PGA Championship betting odds.
Rory McIlroy (+1200)
McIlroy is battling with Clark for second in the OWGR rankings, and he’s had a relatively inconsistent 2024 season. After finishing T7 or better in the last three majors of 2023, McIlroy finished T22 at the Masters and never really challenged the top of the leaderboard.
However, McIlroy is a two-time PGA Championship winner, raising the Wanamaker Trophy in 2012 and 2014. That 2014 victory came at Valhalla, so the Irish golfer might be able to glean some good vibes.

McIlroy started slow at Pebble Beach, but he improved heading into the Masters. However, a second-round 77 in tough conditions basically ended any chances of him winning the Masters.

After a T33 at Hilton Head, McIlroy teamed up with Shane Lowry to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Hanging with his good friend for a successful week will hopefully give McIlroy more confidence as he attempts to win his first major since that win at Valhalla back in 2014.

McIlroy continues to be one of the best drivers of the ball that golf has ever seen. He drives it long, and he drives it accurately.
It’s the short game that continues to trouble the Northern Ireland star. McIlroy has been inconsistent with his irons, brutal around the greens and then struggling when he gets on the putting surface.

The smart choice among PGA Championship picks is Scheffler, the best golfer on the planet right now, even at these short 2024 PGA Championship odds. The only worry is that the birth of his child might take away from his ability to practice leading up to the tournament, and rightfully so. This might be the best chance anyone has to slow down Scheffler’s current run.
Another player to watch in these PGA Championship betting odds is Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg, who finished solo second at the Masters, his first-ever start in a major championship. He also won the RSM Classic in November 2023 for his first PGA Tour win. Aberg and Hovland also rolled over Scheffler and Koepka 9-and-7 in the Ryder Cup, where Aberg won two points.
